Guest guest
Thanks for the advise! And no, I don't mind hearing things over and over-helps me feel reassured. Well, it's been 36 hours since I started using Fenogreek tablets, as well as spending yesterday nursing Ian at almost every chance (it was like every hour I think). Anyway, I've noticed that I'm leaking more today and Ian is not having to work as hard to get the milk. I'm gonna cut down on the Fenogreek, as it is causing bad stomach pains this morning, but I'm continuing to watch myself. Thanks Alot ladies! Ok, a little more about me though...Ian is my first and only child, born 3/6/00. He was 1 week early, as I was induced because of pregnancy induced hypertension. It was a natural birth though. He was 9 lbs 4 oz and 21 inches long. I quit my job of 3 years to become a Work at home mom, and Ian has been breastfed exclusively since birth - he even hates taking breastmilk by bottle. If you'd like, You can see pics of him and the birthstory at http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/o/ourlittleian/ My hubby starts his first real post-college job on Monday, and I work out of my home as an office manager for my mom, who's a private provider-developmental therapist for kids 0-3 y.o. Look forward to talking to ya'll more! Sher Re: Just Joined--Sherry Welcome, Sherry, I hope you will bear with hearing the same advice a number of times, but I bet you will hear something that will help you and Ian to keep nursing. I am guessing that Ian is going through a growth spurt. This typically occurs aroung 3 months and again at six months. (He is already passed the 3 and 6 week ones). Breastmilk milk is continually produced, so what you and Ian need to do is the following: Give yourself a day off and go to bed with lots of diapers, snacks, water/fluids, a toy or two and a book. Spend a day resting and nursing Ian as much as possible. Don't go anywhere (besides the bathroom, and take Ian along if he is nursing at the moment.) Don't work or do housework. This will give your body the signal to produce more milk and the energy reserve to do it with. It could take a few days of this too, since your supply may have dropped when Ian was sick, and he has just recovered it to where it used to be. One analogy on milk supply is " Today's demand level is tomorrow's supply level. " In addition, Sher, keep your diet up. Eat as much as you need--maybe 2500 calories a day or more--and drink at least 64 oz of water (that's the 8 8oz glasses deal). You can try to drink " Mother's Milk " tea or take fenugrek supplements to bolster your supply as well. A good multi-vitamin is generally recommended by the medical profession. If you feel really stressed by all that's happening you will benefit from additional b-vitamins--ideas lately have been brewer's yeast or a glass of wine or homebrewed beer. As for not being able to express anything--I can't usually, but I know my baby still gets plenty. Your body's delivery system and Ian's request system are changing, maturing, and you will get in sync again, but it can take a bit. You and Ian have succeeded well so far, so just give yourself some time and you'll feel the thrill again.
