My daughter has been going there almost 10 yrs now. The best camp there is. At the beginning I had social stories to start camp, end camp, begin school etc. She has learned so much there and everyone is trained. Dermer is the director and also is a specialist with Broward County schools so knows our kids very well. Its difficult to secure a spot and there is a huge waiting list. However, I heard there is a couple of spots open for the 3/4 yr olds for this summer. I can't say enough good things about this camp. She socializes better, even ate different things that she wouldn't for me in the beginning, behaviors were better etc. love them, love them, love them.:)

How did you like it? How old were your kids at their first time there? How did they adjust to the less structured environment and no academics? How was their transition back to school at the end of Summer? Questions, questions, questions... thank you so much for any feedback!Sent from my iPhone

Forgot to mention. It is structured and they have some academics going on with the play activities. The days are scheduled with activities for every minute of the day.

I think they only have openings for 3,4, and 5 years. old. My daughter loves it and is already asking whem camp is going to start. She has such a good time that it takes her a couple of weeks after camp ends to 'get back' into the school routine. The camp is however very expensive.Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®Date: Sun, 7 Mar 2010 08:56:49 -0800 (PST)To: <sList >Subject: Re: Summer Camp at DP JCC Contact the JCC @ . I believe there are teenager volunteers helping at Camp, but I wouldn't expect

them to be certified on anything, since they're teenagers...

There are levels of staff from conselors in traing up to some of the ESE school staff and teachers and a behavioral specialist. I have never heard of any child regressing and not having fun at this camp..My son loves it...they will address behaviors as they come up but it really is a camp with appropriate supports for the campers to be successful and have fun..not a therapuetic program...(although learning to have leisure skills and have fun is very theraputic) .and there are teenagers there and I have never met a nicer, more caring group of teens who are responsible and are willing to interact with the campers...call the JCC and ask for the contact info for ..he tries to make sure that the camp is the right fit for tj!!!!

are there teenagers working there? Are they trained, certifies or educated in the areas of Autism and other disabilities? Are those teens supervising the teens supervised at all times by trained adults?
