Hi !! Did your child and the service dog bond well? There is a SWFL service dog group that you can check out here http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=428070610532 & ref=ts

Hi there,

We recently got a service dog for in January. My main question is dealing with aggression towards the dog. Has anyone had success whether it be a social story, video modeling, etc., to help our children understand how to be gentle and appropriate with animals. I have tried a few, but would like to see what else might work.

Thanks so much,

My son has occasionally been too rough with his dog. We model and directly teach how to touch the dog, where to touch the dog and how to read the dog's body language (ears up or back, tail wagging or tucked under, etc.). I have held my son's hand to show him the level of pressure the dog can tolerate and then let him watch me pet the dog. We also could not leave him alone with the dog until we were certain he could be appropriate. Even when they play, they still play rough sometimes and there are times, my son cannot self-regulate and they get a time-out from "playing".

Social stories and constant teaching and modeling will be the most effective.

Good luck!
