You are invited to join the American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today of Florida (ADAPTFL), a cross-disability activist organization which reaches to people with disabilities, their families, and supporters in Florida. ADAPT recognizes the need to engage the larger community in the issues that affect the millions of Floridians who live and work in the Sunshine State. · We believe that individuals need to be in the community and not in an institutional setting. · we believe all individuals are capable of working in a competitive setting regardless of disability. · We believe that all individuals can advocate for themselves with the proper support. The goal of ADAPTFL is to organize a network of individuals with disabilities to be activiely involved in systems change in the state of Florida. This is a critical time for self advocates. The voices of self advocate are not being listened to at the systems level. The voices of self advocates must be listened to NOW! Because of the size of Florida, ADAPTFL will meet on average once per month and communicate using emails, a listserv, and phone calls for those without easy computer access. ADAPTFL is developing its own website to function as a portal for the disability community in Florida. In addition, ADAPTFL’s website will have a list of resources available to disability community. What are the benefits of become a member of ADAPTFL? · Personal development . · Helping other self advocates become empowered , as well as yourself. · An opportunity to advocate for positive change for individuals with disabilities. · Being part of a team who will work together toward common goals.
