Guest guest
Hi Pam, >>>It turns out to be exactly in the middle of the range.. yippee. But I now >>>know why it is not used much.. I just got the bill... $155 !!!! just for >>>this one test. A complete waste of money for normal everyday testing.<<< YIKES! My FT3 is lower in cost of my TSH, around $48.00 and that is sending it out to Quest. If mine were that high, my insurance company would be having fits for sure! Guest guest
Hi Jane, Do you also get copies of your labs? This would be much better for your tracking, if your not getting the copies. When will docs learn not to use a TSH when someone is on the atd's? <sigh> Take care, Jody _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

Guest guest
Elaine, Could you elaborate on ImmunoStart? Is this a Rx or OTC? I have always been hypotensive. Generally I'd have to have my BP checked twice because it was always hovering around 90/50. Of course I got faint a lot but never had to worry about hypertension. Now, it seems, my blood pressure is creeping up. I actually have had readings in the 130/90 range! Its also puzzling that whenever I start to go hypo (and I'm guessing here because its been nearly impossible to get lab results) I get a dramatic increase in PVC's. I have palpatations all the time but the ectopics are really scary, especially when they feel like bigemini and cause tightness in the chest sort of like angina. This never, ever happened before the RAI. The heart thing was the very worst when my TSH was untreated and in the 70's. Could this have caused some kind of autoimmune set-up? And, now that it seems to want to hang around, what might be done about it? Could this possibly be autoimmune as well? Thanks, Laurel Re: Tee hee !!! ( endo app.) Hi Pam, I notice you mentioned blood pressure problems. I have them too and so do all 4 of my brothers and both of my children. Many studies show that lots of us with essential hypertension have autoantibodies to cardiac muscle. While I haven't been tested for these antibodies, I do have mitochondrial antibodies, and these also show up in autoimmune hypertension. I've started taking an immunomodulator, ImmunoStart which contains glucans. I also quit HRT, which had caused my bp to really spike. The last issue of Clinical Endocrinology and Metaboism has a study showing how hypertension is related to deficiencies of Human Growth Hormone. I had a HGH test recently while we were working on new lab methods, and my level was very low. So I'm considering trying that. In the study, subjects treated with HGH experienced a significant blood pressure reduction. I have to research this further, but it would seem that since autoimmunity increases in aging and, according to some studies, all essential hypertension is autoimmune, that HGH might benefit immune function, which could account for its beneficial effects. Just something to confuse the issue further, huh? Take care, Elaine

Guest guest
Doris, Was the price you paid for the FT3 when you had insurance or not ? Back in the good ol days, when I had insurance, I was shocked that all doctors and dentists have to charge MUCH less for everything. This way those of us without insurance, the ones that can least afford it, pay top dollar, and are subsidizing the whole mess , in my opinion. And other way to deepen the divide between the haves and the have nots ! I would go to pay my bill and they would say the office visit is $100, then they say the insurance company only allows us to charge $ 50... you share will be $5.... I do not remember the exact numbers, but it was pretty close to this. Jody, are you sure ? $45 ? My bill is from Quest. Same company. I would really like to know, because I am going to have to work a bunch of overtime just for this one darn thing. :-( I have to earn $240 to get $155 after taxes, then I still need to pay for gas to get there, and supplies used. This means I have to earn about $265 to pay for one stinking test ! And I am not taking wear and tear of my vehicle and the cost of help with book keeping, my time involved in phone call to job, etc. See why I get cranky about all this ? -Pam- trying to remember to breath ! Guest guest
Hi Pam, I will look up the hospital bill and make a copy of it and snail mail it to you. It will have to be next week so please remind me. Maybe having a copy of the bill when both are sent to the same company to be done you will be able to do something with it? That is ridiculous that the difference between insured and uninsured is so off like this! It is the uninsured who NEED the lower costs! I didn't mean to bring this up to upset you I also know that my exact costs are in the archives, I put them in last year...you may want to do a search on lab costs or lab charges. Guest guest
What a great idea Jody ! I am not sure what I will do, but I shall have a week or so to think about it. <sigh> This is the test I fought so hard to get, because of my unique moment in time, with that poison thing and no meds and possible remission, so it made sense, but the office people said they thought it was as much as $70... big difference. I can do nothing about a bunch of women in and office guessing, but the bill just caught me by surprise. Doris, Thanks, I wait with baited breath. LOL Heard on NPR that congress is now going to spend a bunch of time debating spending three something TRILLION dollars plus, for national health care for PETS ! They say we need to give animals more respect for the good they do for their owners ! -Pam- done spitting nails, just chewing on them now
Guest guest
Hi Jane, Have you tried the top docs site? This is where I found my current endo and I love her. The docs here are recommended by other patients so it is better than going blind. I have heard of a few people not being happy with some of the docs there but many have been. Good luck on your endo search. It is really rough the first time out, a royal pain, but for us to feel the best we can, sometimes it is necessary. http://thyroid.about.com/library/weekly/bldoc1.htm Jody _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
Guest guest
Pam Thanks for the clarification. I guess my FT4 of 2.3 is a bit high...sigh. When my TSH finally moved up to .25 (it's back down to <.01 now) I felt hypo. Go figure! I have never had a FT3 run before, so I guess springing for one next labs is OK. We'll see what the insurance pays. I'm just glad he finally is routinely ordering FT4, used to go by the totals T's and TSH only. My endo, who I gave Elaine's book to for Christmas, said he found the book " valuable " . He's not very verbal, didn't elaborate at all on that, and indeed, our 5 minutes was probably up anyway at that point. I wonder how to compare quantities on bugleweed. My Chinese herb formula currently has about 20-something herbs in it, and Bart added bugleweed a few weeks back, but it's about 5% of the total. And, it's in powdered herb form, not a tincture. Anyway, my biggest puzzle is WHY do I feel GOOD when my numbers say I'm hyper? If I don't shake, my pulse is normal, I sleep well, etc., how can I be so hyper? Is it just that my herbs mask symptoms? Wish I knew, but I certainly am glad I'm not feeling like I did when I was hyper before. Terry
