claims being made on a candida website

I belong to a candida website -

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/candidasupport/

This website is totally devoted to candida and there is a wealth of

information on there about this, plus nutrition and I'd say it's

probably the best I have seen. The moderator is very knowledgeable

about this.

What concerns me is, she is making claims that her diet, plus the

recommended fats and proteins are enough to chelate out heavy metals

from the body (including mercury). Many people on there believe this

and think they are going to recover from mercury.

someone challenged her slightly about it, a couple of people and she

was obviously not happy and gave a few short reasons for her

exaggerated claims. But I come along and basically after my post,

she said to me " I consider this subject closed " . She was obviously

very p*ssed off that she was being questioned and challenged.

Her idea is that lipoic acid is contained naturally in meats and

other foods, and along with fats/proteins and the candida diet, the

metals will be chelated out of both body and brain.

has anybody heard of this? And what on earth do you make of it? I

thought the lipoic acid in food was not in a potent enough form to be

effective for brain detox and it had to be used in a complete

supplement form so it was concentrated and then able to be used as a

chelating agent agent at the appropriate times.

Someone on there seems to think it's worked for them and said their

hair test was proof and showed elevated heavy metals after she began

to employ this diet etc. I am sure many of you have been on a

candida diet, eating meats, vegetables, butter, and other fats and

proteins and have you chelated your mercury? I sure haven't.
