Alert: Florida Budget and APD

Services for persons with developmental disabilities

are at risk of cuts in Florida starting July 1, 2010. To avoid this, Florida

legislators needs to recieve the enhanced FMAP from the federal government.

The Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (FMAPs)

are used to determine the amount of Federal matching funds for State budgets to

allow for assistance payments for certain social services, and State medical

and medical insurance expenditures. The Social Security Act requires that the

Secretary of Health and Human Services calculate and publish the FMAPs annually.

At

the state level, they restored all previous cuts, except they caped Tier One at

$120,000. This might impact individuals with disabilities, causing them greater

institutionalization. The legislature needs this not to happen.

How

you can help today:

1.      Call

the Florida legislative delegation to restore the FMAP

2.      Call

your legislator, thank them for the restoration in the budget and ask them to

restore Tier One caps
