Guest guest
Hi Pam, Congratulations on your improvement. Go to www.bcn.net/~stoll and do a search on leaky gut syndrome. It's discussed on that board fairly regularly. Craniosacral therapy isn't much like acupuncture although it has to do with realigning your spine and reducing energy blockages. It was developed by a surgeon. I mention its use as a GD treatment in my book. On stoll's board, in the graves' disease archives, there's information from a woman whose daughter achieved remission using craniosacral therapy and ATDs. Keep well, Elaine

Guest guest
Hi Pam B.! Glad you're feeling better! I'm wondering, why no peanuts? On this blood type diet I'm on, peanuts are supposed to be really good for me. And they're a good source of copper, which is usually something hypers are lacking in. Since I've been eating them as a snack quite a bit lately, I'd really like to know why this is something they want you to cut out! I'm also not doing dairy or wheat. It's really not as bad as you think. Surprisingly, soy milk on cereal is not bad at all. I've been eating oatmeal made with soy milk for breakfast or eating amaranth flakes that I get at a health food grocer. If you've got a good health food/whole foods grocer near you, you'll be surprised at what you can buy wheat-free---cereals, breads, crackers...and I've got a bread machine and have been making bread out of spelt flour. I've found a couple of recipes that work really well and make a nice fluffy loaf. Now, the dairy thing is a little harder. If you love cheese the way I do, well, there's just no substitute that works. I'm actually supposed to be able to eat goat cheese. GROSS! It was horrible. And soy cheese?? Don't even go there. Yuck. Holly update on my alternative treatment Hi All, it's been awhile since I posted, I've been so busy and that is only because I am definitely feeling better! My laundry is caught up, my house is still not clean - but it's presentable. We've had a couple of play-dates and I've gotten a bunch of client work done. What an improvement! I had another visit with Bastyr yesterday and it was only supposed to be for 1/2 hour but took 1 1/2... my babysitter wasn't pleased! So, here is an update on my treatment: Still taking: the bugleweed tincture siberian ginseng flax oil New: Taking CoEnzyme Q-10 Sedaplex - which is to calm anxiety - herbs And, for three weeks, I have to cut out ALL dairy, wheat, corn and peanuts. And try to avoid sugar and alcohol. (I don't know what I'm going to eat for the next three weeks )Then we are going to add one thing in at a time and see if any of them are bothersome to me. Once we figure that out, they are going to put me on a 6-8 month program to heal my gut, apparently they think I have a leaky gut. Have any of you heard of that? They want me to eat even more protein. Did you know we are supposed to have a minimum of 60 g of protein a day? I'm still trying to figure out how to do that. Also, for the next 4 weeks, I'm going to be having Craniosaural therapy which is (i think) like having acupuncture on your head without the needles - tapping on pressure points or something? Another hyperthyroid patient there has been doing it for a few weeks now with great results, supposedly. And finally, with all this stuff I have to take 3 times a day, etc and all my supplements I've been taking from ithyroid.com, I asked if they knew of a multivitamin without iodine or iron and thy sold me Thorne Research Advanced formula, Basic Nutrients V with copper / without iron or iodine. I still have to take 6 of these a day, but it's better than the 30 or so I've been taking. I think that is it, there was a weird thing they did to get rid of my sore knees and sugar cravings, I'll tell you about that in another post... gotta run to the airport now to pick up a friend. Guest guest
Holly, I'll post a couple of simple goat cheese recipes when I have time. Gotta run now. It's really good! Also was wondering, with regard to copper what about the copper bracelet thing? Too unscientific? My dad wore one for years for medicinal reasons (can't ask him anymore why, alas). Guest guest
Hi Pam, Thank you for posting an update. This is exciting watching what you are doing and how you are feeling! Do they run your labs at all so you can see what your levels are doing as you go through each different process? I hope so, it would be wonderful to in corporate your natural work with the proof of allopathic...no one can dispute the numbers in the allopathic world! My sister is a certified cranialsacrel practitioner and certified in Jin Shin Jystu, which is also energy work, and what I have been doing on myself with some kind of success, just not sure how much yet, will see when labs come back next week. She has never done the cranialsacrel on me though. Can't wait for her to come home for an intensive! As for what you will eat...hmmmm a meal of supplements? Enough there to give you that full/satisfied feeling ;-) Can't wait to hear about the knees and sugar cravings! Keep feeling better! Guest guest
Hey Pam, You sound great! Sorry if I am asking you to repeat information, I have missed alot of posts recently, but could I ask who you are going to see for all this alternative stuff? Is it Bastyr? Is this a group? They sound great. I think I have had leaky gut along the line, I have treated it variously with diet and things like flax seed, evening primrose oil and slippery elm (the last one being most effective, the idea being that it acts like a kind of vaseline, or gentle dressing on the gut lining " seal and heal " is what the naturopath said to me. Leaky gut seems to me, from the reading I did, wrapped up with food intolerances and allergies. The theory goes that if tiny tiny microscopic particles of food cross from your leaky gut into your blood stream, your immune system is triggered into attacking the particle of food as a foreign body and marks that food type thenceforward as foreign and this is why we get bad reactions to different types of food. The severity varies from mild intolerence to true allergy (course, these are not always related to leaky gut, but I don't know the other reasons). Can you tell I am in a rush... got to go, sorry for being short DAWN ROSE > >Reply-To: graves_support >To: <graves_support > >Subject: update on my alternative treatment >Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 10:18:04 -0700 > >Hi All, it's been awhile since I posted, I've been so busy and that is only >because I am definitely feeling better! Guest guest
resending, since it didn't show up yesterday... update on my alternative treatment Hi All, it's been awhile since I posted, I've been so busy and that is only because I am definitely feeling better! Guest guest
Golfers wear copper bracelets a lot. I've heard it's good for joint problems like arthritis, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, etc...I often wondered how it actually worked, too. I look forward to the recipes! Guest guest
Soy is supposedly bad for hypo. It SLOWS thyroid production, which I think has something to do with the phyto-estrogens in it. Thus, it should be good for hypers. I'm subscribing to the blood type theory, and that we react differently to foods based on our blood type. For my blood type, soy is supposed to be highly beneficial. So, I'm not saying everyone who is hyper should use soy. It may be bad for some people. But I've been using is for almost two months in place of milk, and I feel so much better than I did! For my blood type, soy is supposed to be highly beneficial. So, I'm not saying everyone who is hyper should use soy. It may be bad for some people. But I've been using is for almost two months in place of milk, and I feel so much better than I did! Guest guest
This is where I get confused again. What about those of us who have had RAI? Or thyroidectormy? Is soy then OK or bad?
