DRT-Discrete Trial Training is one of a variety of approaches that use the principles of ABA. DRT begins with a comprehensive assessment of each learner's current skills and needs. The assessment is typically accomplished by observing the learner directly in a variety of situations. Every skill that is selected for instruction is defined in clear, observable measures and terms. They are then broken down into its component parts. Each component is then taught by presenting a cue or prompt (antecedent). When the target response occurs, its followed immediately by a consequence that must be motivating for that particular learner. Any other response given is ignored. The antecedent-response-consequence method is considered to be a learning trial. There are many trials presented to the learner in succession. The learner's

responses are documented and recorded based on well defined, specific, and objective criteria. I hope this helps

It is my understanding that Broward Schools

now offers ABA in it's schools. If you think your child needs it, I suggest

you ask and make sure you post your request in the Parent Input Section of

your IEP.
