Dear parents of children, adolescents and young adults with autism,The four–to-one preponderance of boys to girls with autism is well known. In addition, a large subset of children and teens with autism show symptoms and signs suggesting increased levels of male hormones, androgens. For the past several years, Dr. Mark Geier has been treating nearly a thousand autistics with testosterone lowering medications and seeing prompt and marked improvement in many behaviors related to elevated androgens. I now have an opportunity to work with Dr. Geier in South Florida. First, it is necessary to determine if there is enough interest in South Florida to proceed with this work. Please take a few minutes to review the list of symptoms and signs of elevated androgen hormones below and let us know if you would like your child to be a candidate for evaluation and possible treatment. Symptoms and Signs of elevated androgens:1. Frequent aggression/frustration (meltdown)2. Abrupt mood swings3. Unusually increased physical strength4. In boys before puberty, penile erections during bathtime5. “humping†pillows, legs, or other objects6. Increased playing with sexual organs or, in teens, frequent masturbation7. Obsessive sexual interest in teens and young adults8. Acne in young children and more severe acne when older9. Balding on the top of the head10. Signs of early puberty (before age ten)a.
