Guest guest
Hi Patty, I could only find hummus in a can (organic) however it says it has sugar in it. I wasn't sure if I could have that on the candida diet, do you know? Thanks Cherie > > > > Hi ladies! > > > > I was wondering if anyone has a recipe for a yummy dip for eating raw > > veggies on the candida diet? Guest guest
Hi Cherie, If it has sugar, I'd avoid it. If you have a Whole Foods, they make their own roasted vegetable hummus that's pretty good, but it's not organic. They sell a Tuscan white bean dip that's good on veggies. They also have several brands of hummus that are organic. Almost all health food stores carry hummus. Lundberg Brown Rice Chips, Sea Salt flavor are great w/ the dips including salsa and gaucamole. I don't know if your ND would approve of the chips though because there is a small amount of starch. I have them once a week as a treat...taste so much better than corn tortilla chips. I know the Body Ecology Diet for candida allows baked blue corn tortilla chips. Wild Oats makes an Italian dressing that's just olive oil and spices, totally vinegar, sugar, and yeast-free. It's great for adding a little flavor to chopped veggies. I don't know if you can do nut butters...some diets say it's ok and others discourage them, but you could put cashew, almond, sunflower, macademia or tahini nut butters on carrots, celery or apples if you're not avoiding fruit. Stay away from peanut butter and pistachios because they have more mold than the other nuts. Occasionally I'll have a Lundberg Organic Brown Rice Cake topped with cashew butter and a few organic berries on top. Love, PH > > > > Have you tried hummus with raw veggies? > > We love red and green peppers dipped in hummus! > > Patty > > > > --- In , " cannst42 " <cannst42@> wrote: > > > > > > Hi ladies! > > > > > > I was wondering if anyone has a recipe for a yummy dip for eating > raw > > > veggies on the candida diet? Guest guest
You can make a really healthy dip with advocados . . . Just mash advocados, add some lemon juice, crushed fresh garlic, finely chopped onion, and red pepper. Add sea salt and black pepper if you like. You can vary the amount of everything (depending on the size of the advocado) to satisfy your taste . . . Full of flavor as well as healthy nutrients! Guest guest
EWWW!! Sugar in hummus??? What are they thinking! Maybe you are looking in the wrong place at the grocery store. You can usually find it in the deli area, in the refrigerated section. Athenos is a good brand, and they come in different flavors. I like the Roasted Red Pepper hummus myself. http://www.athenos.com/ProductInfo/hummus.aspx You can also make your own. The only ingredients you need are garbanzo beans, lemon juice, garlic, tahini, and salt. You just process it in a food processor. Here is a recipe: http://www.mediterrasian.com/delicious_recipes_hummus.htm Hummus is a creamy puree of chickpeas and tahini (sesame seed paste) seasoned with lemon juice and garlic, and is a popular spread and dip in Greece and throughout the Middle East. Hummus can be served as part of a meze platter; with bread or vegetable crudités for dipping; as a spread or filling for pita, lavash or Turkish pide bread; or as a tasty, creamy alternative to butter in sandwiches. A spoonful or two of hummus can also be added to Middle Eastern or Greek-style pilafs and stews to add richness. 2 cloves garlic—roughly chopped ¼ cup lemon juice ¼ cup water 14 oz (400g) canned chickpeas (garbanzo beans)—rinsed and drained ½ cup tahini 1 teaspoon sea salt PLACE all ingredients in a food processor or blender and process until smooth, scraping the sides occasionally. Variations: If you like a spicier hummus, add a small red chili (chopped) or a pinch of cayenne pepper, or try a little cumin for a more exotic variation. Tip: Prepare extra quantities of hummus—it can be refrigerated, covered, for up to 1 week and frozen for up to 3 months -- In , " cannst42 " <cannst42@...> wrote: > > Hi Patty, > > I could only find hummus in a can (organic) however it says it has > sugar in it. Guest guest
Hi PH, Every jar or container of hummus I pick up has at least a little sugar in it. I do not have a Whole Foods here, we do have health food stores but no hummus without sugar. The can of gabanzo beans I bought ended up having sugar and it was organic. I will have to ask my ND if I can have it. Thanks for your help! Guest guest
Thanks Rogene, I have been using advocados for dipping my blue chips. I concerned about having too much fat, my ND wants me to keep it low fat. Don't advocados have a lot of fat in them? Thanks Cherie -- In , saxony01 <saxony01@...> wrote: > > You can make a really healthy dip with advocados . . . > > Just mash advocados, add some lemon juice, crushed fresh garlic, finely chopped onion, and red pepper.
