When they cup a baby that young, they use a medicine cup, and the baby kind

of laps at it.. thats what they use in NICU, here..

Hope this helps.. she might not be able to suck on an actual cup until she is

a little older

My dd is one and still only does marginally well with a sipppy cup. She does

about as well with a normal cup (with help) and just discovered by accident

that she does great with a cup and straw. I guess it is still that suckling

instinct. You might try a straw with your little one.

Cups

My 2 month old will not take breast milk from a bottle and I know that some

of you have mentioned a cup. I have found a website to buy one from, but

the variety is confusing. Is one kind better than another?

, my 4 mo. old has never had a bottle, so I picked up the Avent

Trainer Cup in case she refuses to take the bottle completely*. I was really

surprised when I opened it...the spout is actually soft, pliable rubber

instead of hard plastic. I bought this instead of a regular sippy because I

thought it would be a good " in-between " choice. They are rather expensive --

almost $5 for one, thank heavens I don't need more.

*On a personal aside, I finally ordered the Avent Isis pump. We're supposed

to be going to my class reunion in less than 2 weeks and the night before

will be leaving the kids with my mother. I've got to start preparing

for taking EBM out of either the bottle or the cup now! And I'm panicked

that she'll refuse!!

I have found a avent bottle cup to be the best. It converts. So if you have avent bottles just buy the sippy cup nipples to go with it. I also found the sippy cup that spills works best. If it required to much sucking ds didn't like it.

My Ds was using a cup at 1 month old but it had to be the kind that required no sucking. He would let the milk pour into his mouth rather then the sucking action. Now he is almost 9months and he drinks from a cup better then most 2 or 3 year olds.

while we are on the subject of cups I have a few questions. First, all the

playtex sippy cups say 6 months and up, do you have to wait until 6 months to

use those kind? I have tons of avent bottles but I can't find *just* the

spouts I found the handels, but no spouts and I don't want to spend $5 for

the whole thing when I have more bottles than I need, anyone know a website

you can order them from? I went to avents page but there is no way to order

off it that I could find. what sippy cup are good to use *other* than the

avent in case I can't find the spouts. My DD is 4 1/2 mos. Thanks!

I think will do fine with the cup. Just offer it a few times ahead so

she gets used to it. My DS loved the soft spout on the Avent cup--except

that he chewed on it, and then on me too--Ouch!

llanda,

playtex cups are hard to suck from, thats probably why they say 6 months and

up.. I buy the gerber kind, because the valves are easier to make flow

I took out the little plastic piece and if you look at it up in the light you

can see the little slit they've cut in it, I just cut it a little more so

that it would be easier for him to suck from but still spill proof. Just

another idea!

Also, in the very beginning ds also had a hard time figuring out to tip the

cup and suck so I bought the small (drink box size, i think) Rubbermaid type

sport cup with the flip top and straw--he did very, very well with these

since he could hold onto it and just suck.

Any of the sippy cups the plastic barrier pops out! I had to pop all of them out so my son could get the milk. He hates having to suck to hard to get it and gets mad and throws it. He was able to let the milk trickle in his mouth at 2 months old. If you have the Playtex just pop the white barrier out and throw it away or save it for when he is older.
