Pete shares with us something he found, " Anyone who's an NA

is automatically an alcoholic because alcohol is a drug " .

I heard similar things at AA. Even though there were lots of oldtimers who

resented the presence of cross-addicted young people and only wanted to talk

about alcohol, the general belief still was that if you were alcoholic, you

were automatically addicted to anything and everything else.

And for that reason there were a large number of steppers who would give

anyone a hard time who needed any sort of medication. I had one

sanctimonious and self-righteous woman tell me that my asthma inhaler was

addictive, and that if I were in a rehab I would not be allowed to use it.

" Do you mean to tell me that your rehab would allow me to go into status

asthmaticus and run the risk of dying? "

She couldn't answer that. She could only repeat that I was using an

addictive drug.

Ecchhhh!

Cheers,

nz
