Guest guest
PH,Coffee enemas promote the activity of glutathione for the immediate use, but it does not actually increase the amount you have stored in your liver. That has to come from somewhere through replenishment. That's one of the reasons the juices are so important to the Gerson therapy. One of the best supplements for glutathione replenishment is N-acetyl-cysteine, or NAC. (See below.) While fasting, do not take any supplements at all, but you CAN take your thyroid pill. Taking it sublingually would be best. The thyroid pill will keep your metabolism going well, while fasting will slow it down. As for the other supplements, that's your call. Normally in fasting, you do not want to introduce anything into your system that the liver has to deal with. You want your digestion to have complete rest. Supplements still have to be broken down, so they generally should be avoided. However, the master cleanse uses water with maple syrup, lemon juice and cayenne, and this still effectively allows your body to cleanse. This is what my naturopath originally put me on when I started fasting with his supervision. I later did water only fasts on my own, due to Dr. Fuhrman's book. Here's some info on glutathione:http://www.ei-resource.org/treatment-options/treatment-information/antioxidants-and-liver-supplements/ Glutathione is an antioxidant enzyme often referred to as the body's "master antioxidant" due to its central role in protecting the body's cells from free radical damage. Glutathione is composed of the amino acids cysteine, glutamine and glycine and is concentrated in the liver, although it carries out its work throughout the body. This important enzyme is involved in protecting cells from environmental toxins, drugs and alcohol as well as toxins produced by the body itself as a result of normal metabolism. So important to health is glutathione that it's depletion leads to cell death. Environmental toxins are known to cause depletion of glutathione. Maybe not surprisngly, glutathione deficiency has been implicated in a whole range of chronic degenerative disorders including all of the environmental illnesses covered by this site. Also of note is the influence glutathione levels have on immune function. Like all cells, immune cells rely up on glutathione for defense against free radicals. Glutathione is also required for the activation of natural killer cells and for many other functions of specific immune cells. Clearly in this modern age of toxic living it is wise for everybody to be aware of their glutathione status but for environmental illness sufferers it is essential since their levels of this vital detoxifier have almost certainly been compromised already. Fortunately there are a number of natural products that have been shown in clinical studies to raise effective levels of glutathione. N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC)Cysteine is a sulphur containing amino acid and is a major component of glutathione (the others being glutamine and glycine). Supplementing cysteine boosts levels of this important 'master antioxidant'. Cysteine is one of the best free radical destroyers and helps to detoxify harmful toxins in the body and also binds to potentially harmful heavy metals, removing them from the body. Clinical studies have shown that pretreatment with NAC before parecetomol overdose protects liver cells and maintains glutathione levels. Treatment after overdose raises glutathione levels to normal and prevents further liver cell damage5. Excessive levels of toxins from the environment and from gut dysbiosis and leaky gut syndrome can lead to depletion of cysteine. This in turn leads to depletion of glutathione and allows free radicals and other toxins to get into the bloodstream un-neutralized, causing damage to tissues. In these instances cysteine levels can be raised by supplementation, indeed any treatment aimed at restoring liver function should include cysteine. The best form to supplement is n-acetyl-cysteine as this has been shown to increase glutathione levels in the body more than cysteine and even glutathione itself. Typical doses are 500-1500mg per day in divided doses. Patty>> Hi Patty,> I'm confused because I thought coffee enemas actually increased > glutathione rather than depleted it? Guest guest
LOL, What I meant is that when I took the magnesium citrate in those doses, it totally cleaned me out! I had nothing in there at all. I knew that because the mag citrate I drank was red (I bought the cherry flavored one), and in less than a half hour, when I went to the bathroom, nothing but red liquid came out! Regular bowel movements are totally necessary for good health. This means we should be going several times a day. (We eat several times a day, right? What goes in must come out!) As long as it is a healthy elimination and not diahhrea. I just recently read that over 90% of our stools are comprised of bacteria! Our gut flora is the mass of bacteria, yeasts, viruses, worms, one-cell structures and all sorts of little critters that live in our digestive tract. The mass of microbes can weigh between four to six pounds. Amazing, isn't it? It sounds like you are doing okay. Guest guest
Some crazy doctor wanted to take my husband's gallbladder out once. It turned out it wouldn't have fixed the problem because what he really had was diverticulitis. Maybe your friend's daughter needs a scope to find out if there is something in her intestines that is causing the problem. Apparently the two things can be confused based on symptoms and test results. Liver Flush/Fasting Girls, I have a question. If you have had your gallbladder removed, where do stones accumulate? in the liver? Can you still do liver flushes? I have a friend whose daughter that had her gallbladder removed and is still sick as all get out. I know I researched it before and posted alot of info on it, but I cant find it.......boo hoo.......anyway, this gal is only 17 and the doctors are stumped..... ...imagine that Let me know if you all know about flushes without a gallbladder. ....... Guest guest
Dede, Gallstones can accumulate in the bile ducts in the liver. This liver flush will push out any stones that may accumulate in the liver, bile ducts, and gallbladder. That is why it is called both a liver flush and a gallbladder flush. They are one and the same. How sad about this young girl....if she would have done the liver flushes before the surgery, she could have avoided having the gallbladder removed completely...at least that is what many people have claimed on curezone! Patty > > Girls, I have a question. If you have > had your gallbladder removed, where do > stones accumulate? in the liver? Can you > still do liver flushes? Guest guest
Hi , There are some risks associated with the liver cleanse...the most disconcerting one would be if a stone blocks a bile duct and you end up jaundice or something like that until you find out. This is what everyone freaks out about with the liver flush (that is frightened of it) and they try to scare people off with it, saying you will end up in the emergency room, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah. But the answer to that problem is if you get a blocked duct, you just do another flush right away to push it out. I've never had that happen, so I can't tell you how difficult that outcome would be like. My husband vomited on his last flush, which was no fun and he said he'd never do another one. That was until I told him that the author of my book on liver flushing said he'd vomited too once, so that made my husband a little more comfortable with the idea of his midnight barf. LOL. Men are so funny. If it were me, I think I'd wait until those implants are out to do any serious detoxing. You are really just spinning your wheels with them inside of you yet. You can eat right and change your diet right now, and those alone will go a long way toward helping, but it might be a better idea to wait until after explant to do more serious stuff. Guest guest
Beth, Flagyl would never fix an imbalance in the gut flora. It would only make it worse, because anti-biotics kill everything, good and bad. Flagyl can halt a raging bacterial infection in the body that is out of control and in need of harnessing, but that would not apply to an imbalance of gut flora unless it were life threatening. The only way to really build a healthy digestive system is to provide your body with those things it needs...healthy, well functioning gut flora that is dominated by beneficial microbes. That gut flora is so important that it covers every little square millimeter surface area of our digestive tract with a thick bacterial band of mucous. These beneficial microbes produce every antibiotic under the sun, and every anti-fungal and antiviral substance known to man. This is our protection from pathogenic microbes coming from our food and drink. This thick coating of flora also protects us not only from infections, but from carcinogenic and toxic substances. In an interesting study involving two groups of animals, one was treated with antibiotics, and one was not. Then they were given huge amounts of organic mercury in their food and water. In the animals not treated by antibiotics, (the ones with a robust and healthy amount of gut flora), only one percent of the mercury managed to get into the body from the digestive tract. In animals treated with antibiotics, which wiped out the beneficial gut flora in digestive system, about 95 percent of the mercury got into their bodies and their blood stream, bones, muscles and everywhere else. That's kind of an eye opening study, isn't it? It's not hard to imagine what happens inside a human body after a round or two of antibiotics. I'd say any antibiotic use should be followed up with a concentrated effort to flood the body with probiotics! If you have a healthy amount of good bacteria working in your system, indigestion and malabsorption simply should not happen. Your flora will protect you, and will even nourish you, because healthy gut flora actually even synthesizes a whole host of nutrients for us.....our own little factories in our gut produce all the B vitamins, folic acid, pantothenic acid, biotin and more. The main source for Vitamin K2 is our own gut flora! If that gut flora is destroyed through antibiotic use, we will suffer from reduced nutrient absorption until that flora is restored. I could go on and on...(this information came from the latest issue of Wise Traditions, by the way), but I think the picture is clear. HEALTHY GUT FLORA MUST BE RESTORED. IT SHOULD BE A PRIORITY. You can do that by staying away from junk foods and eating lots of yogurt, kefir and raw sauerkraut and other fermented foods, as well as taking probiotics supplements in large quantities. I wish you healing Beth! Patty > > Patty - I was thinking that is my problem - gut flora messed up from my antibiotics after both surgeries. However, I was wondering if I have a bateria infection from the bad bacteria taking over, should the digestive enzymes and probotics take care of that in time or do I need to do something else? Or is bateria infection and imbalanced gut flora the same thing?? Just that a ND treats it with enzymes and probotics and my GI treats it with Falgyl (another antibiotic)???? > > Beth >
