Krista,

I was checked by my doctor for thyroid and did all the testings which never

showed I was having a thyroid problem and I was the whole time. I finally

found a doctor to listen to me and guess what it was my thyroid the whole time.

Krista,

Your T4 dont matter to look at!! My doctor did an antibodies test and blood

drawn for T3 to see if the T3 were low. He sends it in to a lab that diagnosis it.

He also works with the www.doctorsdata.com to use his testing so they are

properly done and checked.

And he says that if your thyroid looks normal than he goes on symtoms

to treat the thyroid and adrenals. some people dont show any signs of

the thyroid not working just symtoms. And these still have to be addressed

according to my doctor.

That is great that your heavy metals came back clean.......Praise God for

that one !!!

I have trouble sleeping and feel tired but wirey at the same time ....its miserable !!

Then when I get to sleep then I dont wake up its so weird !! I also have trouble

swallowing pills which is another sign that its the thyroid. I have brain fog all the time

since 4 years now so I doing a metal detox. But thyroid can cause brain fog as well so

I suggest treating your thyroid and Adrenals. I probably would try the Adrenal first since

the doc is not paying attention to your symtoms you are feeling.

I would try Adrenal Support Vitamins and Pregnenolone Creme and maybe some DHEA 25mg

for a month . Only use the DHEA for 1 to 2 months because these can make you grow

hair like a man or deep voice so dont take it very long. I am trying it for a month only

to give me that extra boost for my adrenals .....I have noticed a difference.

Then if you dont notice a difference than I would tell the doctor you want to try some

thyroid meds like Armour to see if it makes a difference. Just a suggestion !!1

Hi CLynn- Hey, I had a question on your thyroid problem. Are you hypo

or hyper? Also, I think you said in a post way back a couple of

months ago that you can actually feel that your thyroid is sore. Is

this true?

I had my thyroid checked a few times last year (though I haven't

since August,) and even though my TSH is " normal, " it is on they very

low end of normal, which I think points to hyperthyroid. My doctor

doesn't seem to think this is a problem, however I keep going through

these weird cycles of feeling " okay " for a few weeks, then all of the

sudden, something will come over me, and I'm like a walking zombie.

It's not like I'm just tired and need to go to bed, it's like I have

zero energy, I'm weak, brain foggy, but feel like I need to run a

marathon all at the same time (wirey, is that the word?) When I get

this way, I feel some sort of discomfort in my thyroid, not like a

pain, just more of a tenderness or discomfort. Is this what you have?

I've been zombie-ish all week and don't know why. I'm so fatigued but

can't seem to fall asleep, though once I do, my husband is having a

difficult time waking me up....I'm pretty sure I could sleep through

a train going through our bedroom.

Anyway, just curious what your thoughts are. I'm so tired of these

docs telling me everyting is " normal, " but still feeling poopy.

Hi Krista,

Sorry you're feeling so crappy. When you had your thyroid checked,

did you have your thyroid antibodies checked as well? My TSH was

normal so it was deceiving to the two endos that I went to. When

Mercola tested my thyroid though, he tested thryoid antibodies as

well, and it showed they were above normal, indicating a thryoid

problem. Patty said there are 2 thyroid antibodies tests but I can't

remember them specifically. I know it's on our website though:)

PH- I should've known I was going to get that question! Yes, I had

the antibodies tested too. I had a THYROGLOBULIN AB and THYROID

MICROSOMAL AB. Both came back normal.

Does that mean my thyroid is okay, or could I still have a problem? I

probably wouldn't think it was the tyroid except for the fact that

when I get in my zombie spells, my thyroid gets very sore almost like

it's telling me " I'm tired. " I know, it sounds weird....but after

you've been sick so long, you really start to notice what your body

is telling you. :-)

Hi Krista,

My thyroid was tender. It bothered me to wear a high collared shirt

or necklace. It got to the point where it felt as though I had a

pill stuck in my throat - ugh!

My TSH was also " normal " - it was around a 3.75 which is on the hypo

side. The lower the number, the more hyper. After they told me I

was normal, and I knew it wasn't, I had more tests run. They did an

thyroid antibdody test. I believe normal is somewhere around 0-40

(or maybe lower) and mine was like a 350!! My immune system was

attacking my thyroid. I also had a ultrasound of my thyroid and the

results pointed to Hashimotos Thyroiditis (an autoimmune condition).

So, I am not hypo or hyper. Eventually, after my body finally

destroys my thyroid, I will be hypo. Some doctors won't treat

Hashimotos but mine did. I take Synthroid everyday.

Prior to getting on meds, I was super fatigued! My body just ached.

Felt like I was 100 years old. Could barely walk up and down stairs

to do laundry. Oh, and I was starting to get depressed. Went to see

a psychiatrist and he told me that many women he sees with a TSH over

2.0 have depression. Oh, the worst symptom was they thyroiditis (or

tender thyroid - mine ached).

Once I got on the synthroid the depressive thoughts were gone.

Fatigue gone. I didn't feel 100 anymore.

But, my sythroid level ended up being too high. It takes several

months to get the levels right in the body. When I started going

hyper, my TSH as down to .60 - I had horrible insomnia, my hair

started falling out and I lost a crap load of weight! Since then my

meds have changed and I am getting sleep, able to gain weight and

hair is falling out less.

I hope that helps and doesn't overwhelm you. TSH is one measure of

your thyroid but not the best. I would ask your doctor do do a

thyroid panel and test the antibodies if you are concerned.

Missy, it also sounds like you are taking on a lot of stress at

work. This could be taxing your adrenals which could be causing

fatigue.

These sound like adrenal symptoms to me...especially if your thyroid

numbers are in the low number ranges. But were you tested for

thyroid antibodies?

Lynn- Woha! That's a lot to take it! I've had a few different thyroid

tests run, here are my results:

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Normal= 0.320-5.500 uIU/mL

3/17/07 0.934

4/13/07 0.644

8/31/07 1.058

THYROID STIMULATING IG'S 104 Normal= <=125-

THYROGLOBULIN AB <20 Normal= <20- IU/mL

THYROID MICROSOMAL AB 10 Normal= <35- IU/mL

So, it looks to me like the TSH is within the normal range, but

definitely on the lower end of normal. I have been SUPER fatigued

lately. I know that I have some things going on right now, but its not

like it is outside the normal range of regular life stuff, ya know

what I mean? It doesn't seem like I should be this fatigued just over

going to work. I've also been very achy (that's been a symptom for

months and months,)like I am 80 years old. Then, the whole achiness in

my thyroid area is what has me thinking it could be my thyroid. Do you

recommend any other tests be run, that you have had run, that I

haven't already? Thyroid panel?

This is all so confusing, I just want to get to the bottom of

this...I'm sure you feel me there!

Hey, is windy up there right now? Its so windy down here right now, I

could barely get to my car out of the bus! I hate the stupid wind.

The two thyroid antibody tests are the

Anti-TPO (anti-thyroperoxidase) and the

Anti-TG or anti-thyroglobulin)

You want to have both tests done because one can be in range and the

other out of range. The only way you will know for sure if you have

an autoimmune condition is if you test positive on one or the other.

Krista,

How long ago was the thyroid antibody tests?

If a considerable amount of time has passed, then you may want to

have it redone if you think the thyroid is struggling.

It could also have an adrenal component, since the adrenals and the

tnyroid work so closely in harmony.

Patty- I thought the same thing.....thyroid symptoms. I think my

doctor thought the same thing because she tested me twice last year. I

just posted my test results to Lynn, I think I've shown you the

results before. TSH seems a bit low to me. I'm not sure if I should

ask my doc to do some more tests??

It's hard to say...but many times the symptoms will be there and the

tests are normal, so some doctors are astute enough to dose by

symptoms regardless, and see if you experience any improvement. If

you take a trial dose of armour or synthroid and do feel better, you

have your answer.

But it could be other issues that are hard to pin down. These

symptoms of fatigue are often associated with other conditions, so

it's hard to just say it's the thyroid alone. Make sure you are

getting enough minerals, vitamins, protein, and drinking enough

water. Being dehydrated can cause fatigue. But you may also want to

do some adrenal supportive things as well, such as adding in the

pregnenolone, extra Vitamin C, small doses of DHEA, and pantothenic

acid. See if any of those help.

Let us know if you are able to do a trial of armour thyroid and it

makes a difference. I know that my thyroid condition took me by

surprise after 4 years post explant.

Happy Easter!

Patty- The thyroid antibodies were done August 2007 (in the midst of

trying to figure out what the H was wrong with me.) I'm going to check

with my doctor and see if we can run the other two that you

mentioned...Anti-TPO and the Anti-TG. I need to get to the bottom of

this fatigue, it is miserable!

Krista,

Yes, it is super windy! I hate it, errr.

I am not sure if this will help but these are a few of my results:

Thyroxine (T4) Free, Direct, S 1.05 (0.61-1.76 Range)

TSH 3.748 (.0350-5.500)

Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Ab - 315 High (0-34 Range)

Triiodothyronine, Free, Serum 3.3 (2.3-4.2)

Yes, I know just how you feel. It is tough, because I was once such

a go getter and some days it takes all I can just to stay at work a

full day. I do feel much better than I did pre-explant and when my

thyroid was really out of whack, but I am no means my " normal " self.

You might as your ND what tests they recommend. I sure hope you

don't have thyroid issues because they are no fun.

Big hugs,

CLynn

PS... don't blow away.

- Thanks for you recommendations and support. I too, have had

the brain fog.... since last August. It comes and goes pretty

frequently. When I'm really fatigued is when it is the worst. I think

I am going to talk with my ND and see what she thinks about starting

on some thyroid and/or adrenal support. I may have a few more tests

run too. It's hard to one which direction to go with all of this, when

so far my tests have come back within the normal range, yet I know

something is " off. "

Sigh....I may ask more questions as I decide what to do. Thanks so

much .

Patty- Thanks for the advice. I am so good about eating a

well-balanced diet, drinking at least 100 ounces of water each day,

taking my special vitamin pack, drinking my antioxidants, etc. Which

is why I don't understand why I have been feeling crappy. I just feel

like it HAS to be some kind of hormonal balance...adrenals or thyroid.

I have an apt. with my ND in 2 weeks and I am going to ask her what

she recommends. I may try a the armour or synthroid for a month or so

and see how I feel...then try some adrenal support if the thyroid

support doesn't work. I'll decide if I want to do more testing too. I

will definitely keep you updated. Thanks for all the support!
