Guest guest
Hi Patty, I am so confused about my thryoid. My results for the thyroid peroxidase antibodies came back at 11 and the range is 0-34. Does that mean that I tested positive? Also, I'm confused about which one is the better choice between synthroid and armour. Guest guest
Steph, No, you did not test positive. You would have to have higher numbers for it to be an issue. The better choice for you would depend on how you feel on the meds. I prefer Armour because it is the most natural thyroid med available. It comes from porcine sources, which are the most closely related to human thyroid hormone on a biological level. It contains both T3 and T4 hormones. T3 is the powerful one for immediate use, and T4 is converted to T3 throughout the day. So, you get immediate thyroid assistance when you take Armour and enough to get you through most of the day for conversion needs. Synthroid is a synthetic, man made thyroid medicine that contains only the T4 component of the thyroid medicine. So, the assumption is that when you are taking T4 only, that your body is converting to T3 as needed. That may or may not be true. Those with untreated adrenal exhaustion will do better on Synthroid than armour. But that would tell me to make sure to treat those adrenals! Guest guest
Hi Patty, Since I have adrenal issues that I'm working on, should I switch to synthroid until my adrenals are under control? If so, which do you reccommend? Guest guest
Steph, I would stick with the Armour until you feel that you've given it a good trial, and if you don't feel better on the Armour after about 6 weeks, then make the switch to synthroid to see if you feel better. You may also want to ramp up your dose of Armour first to see if a higher dose helps, but if you get symptoms of hyperthyroidism that are uncomfortable and don't ever have a point of feeling weill on the Armour, then it's time to go with the Synthroid. Guest guest
Thanks Lynn. I bet yours went down since you've been on the synthroid. Does your face ever get red or look flushed? I've had a sinus infection for the past couple of days and my cheeks were flushed. My dermatologist said that it's rosacea and gave me something called metrogel to put on my face. It didn't happen from being in the sun or anything like that so I'm really confused. Guest guest
You are welcome. I know it is all so confusing and you hate to hear that patience is the key, but it really is. Keep to a good diet and detoxing that crap out of your system. My face has not got red. I got hyperpigmentation though, dark spots on my face every time I go in the sun. Perhaps you are having an allergy. Did you take antibiotics? Dede knows a lot about dermatology and drugs - you might want to get her opinion on this one. Guest guest
Hi Steph, Sorry you're feeling so badly right now. I had the same thing months ago...fatigue so bad it was difficult to walk or drive. I stayed in bed most of the day and would only get out to pick up kids or go the the doc. What has your ND said about your low WBC? If it's due to bacteria, you could try garlic, Grapefruit Seed Extract or Olive Leaf Extract. Good luck. Guest guest
Thanks PH, It happened after the surgery and now this week. They think it's just a virus, but my WBC was 2.9. It's never been that low. At night sometimes I get pain in my arms or legs. I'm afraid of having lupus. I had an ANA test back in Nov and it was negative. How long did yours last for? Guest guest
From what I remember about this test is go do a test that shows you the levels in this link there is some info about it. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/hashimotos/ When STTM had there forum going there was a big thread about this testing and the ranges. Sorry now it's not there. Try doing a search about it. Guest guest
You don't want antibodies, so negative is what you're looking for. If not negative, at least a low number below the range they give. > > Just a quick question for those in the know, thyroid antibody test's, should > it be neg or pos, or in my case the results were <40 or something similar, i > ask because i recently obtained my hospital records and in my significant > history it lists abnormal thyroid tests, I have never been informed of this > by my gp, or the hospital, but it was it was a while ago, just wondering > really, cheer;s Tim. > -- > Thanks and Regards, Tim. > > >
