Guest guest
I cannot remember if I posted this or not. In an evaluation at the med school for Osteoporosis/Calcium and Vit D. levels, it was discovered that uric acid in my urine was nearly twice as high as it should be. I was put on Allopurinol, which is used to lower uric acid levels, in treating Gout. This is fine, except that I have never had Gout. When levels are high in urine, I believe your body is making too much uric acid or may have problems with the kidneys excreting it. Levels need to come down to avoid kidney stones made from uric acid crystals. In serum, the crystals can cause pain and damage to joints... Allopurinol interferes in some manner with the production of uric acid... Long story short-has anyone else had this happen? Normally, your doctor would probably check serum levels only. This was discovered by accident due to the above evaluation... The strange thing here is that the medication seems to be helping my joint pain... Now I am wondering if there is some way I could have gout, or something that looks like gout, and the steroids are masking it... Or maybe there is something in the med that helps joint pain in some manner. Anyone have any ideas here??? Cathie**************Start the year off right.
