Guest guest
Hi Ladies ~ Okay, this is going to be talking about my tooth - so for those of you who don't have time, please skip. I need some advice!!! As part of my Detox plan, I am starting to get the amalgam fillings removed. Hoping one less thing to bug my auto-immune. I went in today to have a gold crown removed. Under that crown was a root canal and it was packed FULL of mercury!! I also had the mercury filling next to it removed and a composite filling put in that one. MY ISSUE: When he took off the crown I could tell it wasn't good. He was talking to the assistant in dental language that I couldn't understand but there was concern in both their voices. The tooth I had left was pretty much rotted and gone! I have a photo, it WAS BLACK! He said there was most likely infection in the root canal for a long time. The reason I had to have a root canal was due to a infection and that was like 15 years ago. So my options - this is where I need advice... 1. He can attempt to add a crown to what little piece of black rotted tooth I have left, but I have to see an endodontist first so he can make sure the root canal is okay. The dentist fears the crown will fail because of the lack of tooth and that I will lose it within a few years (if even that long). 2. I can have the tooth pulled out. (which I am set on doing) 3. Then, my dilemma - he said I can get a titanium implant!! The word implant scares the heck out of me. I just don't want anything foreign in my body anymore and that is just one more metal!! 4. I can get a bridge. He will have to crown the two teeth around the missing tooth for the bridge. He said that I will probably have to get a new bridge in 10 to 15 years but the implant will last forever. All of this is expensive. I get the tooth pulled next Tuesday and after that I will be without a tooth for at least a year because I can't afford my options right now and insurance doesn't pay for implants (hum, sounds familiar). So, if it failed, I bet they wouldn't pay for the removal of implant either... okay, I am being assey. My thoughts are, I am already having auto-immune issues and I do not think I should get another implant to compromise my health. I have not researched dental implants yet but I know Patty & PH know a thing or two about this topic. Also, this is a really silly question - when they remove my tooth that means the root canal is gone too - right? Please help. Sorry this is so long but this really does have to do with my health being comprimsed by implants and me trying to do the right thing by detoxing. If I have offended anybody, I apologize but I trust you women more than doctors OR dentists! Love, CLynn
Guest guest
Hi CLynn, You just described EXACTLY what I went through 8 months ago!! I ended up having the tooth removed as well as the root canal...very important to remove the root canal itself. Mainstream docs don't think you need to. My holistic dentist, however, said that tooth roots are organs in the body. When they die (which is what a root canal is essentially), it's like leaving a rotting organ in your body. If one of your kidneys failed, docs would remove it immediately to prevent systemic infection. Yet, for some reason docs and dentists don't think to do this for tooth roots. My holistic dentist told me how another dentist implanted dead tooth roots into the skin of rabbits to see what would happen. The rabbits became ill immediately. Some even died. So to answer your question...no, if they remove the tooth, it doesn't mean they remove the root canal along with it. A holistic dentist can remove the root canal permanently and safely. My dentist gave me the option of the implant, but like you I don't want anything implanted into my body ever again!! Having more metal in my mouth is not good either. Because I'm ill, I'm waiting til I have the bridge done. You don't want to wait more than a year though from what I've read. If you wait longer, all your teeth can shift causing big problems. Good luck!! By removing all this you are on the way to health! Love, PH >> Hi Ladies ~> > Okay, this is going to be talking about my tooth - so for those of > you who don't have time, please skip. Guest guest
Wow, I need to call tomorrow and find out if they will remove the roots properly or if it is just the tooth. I am glad I asked because I had NO idea! I figured if they removed the tooth it meant everything. Crap! My dentist is holistic but he wanted me to see an oral surg doc to actually do the removal. I will call in the morning. Ph, they are also telling me to take Emergen-C - 1,000 mg Vitamin C. They are packets that I mix with water and drink. The assistant said 3 a day. Have you heard of this? My teeth hurt pretty bad right now. I have some pain killers from a surgery, I might take a half or I will be up all night with throbbing gums. I bled like crazy! Oh, so much to do now! Thanks for the post this will save me from future surgeries. You are doing the bridge too? I am glad I am on the same page as you. How long have you been missing the tooth? I chew on the side where my tooth is gone, it is the 2nd to the back tooth on the bottom. I guess I will be losing more weight. Guest guest
That's great that they are having you take the Vit C because it helps w/ detox and is standard which holistic dentists when mercury is removed. I've heard of Emergen-C but it has a ton of fructose. It'd be better to take a Vit C w/o all that sugar. Weird, the tooth that you're talking about is the same one I had taken out...2nd from the back. Mines on the left. What about yours? I've been missing the tooth for 8 months... since it's way in the back no one notices but it makes me feel ancient! I also don't like it because now I chew my food only on the other side which can't be good. I plan on getting my bridge within four months...just waiting to feel a little better in the head and w/ fatigue. My dentist will test me to see which materials I'm most sensitive to. See if yours can do the same. Also, you do NOT want a gold crown or other type metal in your mouth. Mixing metals in the mouth is extremely dangerous because the saliva interacts w/ the 2 metals to create an electrical current which can lead to major fatigue. Your holistic dentist probably knows this though. Guest guest
Mine is the exact same tooth!! I guess I am not too concerned about the fructose with all the crap I have going on in my body right now. He did mention that my teeth will probably shift if I don't get it fixed. So?? Oh PH, I had a gold crown on top of an amalgam filling for like 15 years. No wonder I am fatigued and have no kids. I am so lost with all this, I hope he knows what two materials not to mix. When I get to the bridge part, I may need your advice. Thanks again for responding. Guest guest
Hey Lynn, I undestand your dilemma well! I'm sorry to hear about that rotten tooth of yours! That could really be wreaking havoc with your joints. I am very curious about your healing path once that garbage is out of your mouth! I am so HAPPY that you pursued this and didn't let it go! Get that tooth out...that is my advice and from there go with a bridge. I'm am of the mind that any implant in the bone is going to be bad news for us with immune system issues. Once you are healed and you want to MAYBE consider a titanium implant down the road (which I myself won't consider at this time) you can always pursue it later. But with a bridge, you can avoid any issues with an implant, and just let your body heal from that nasty rotten area, yet still be able to chew. I myself have a partial where I have two missing lower molars on my left side. The partial works just fine. To answer your one question...yes, when the tooth is removed, the root canal is gone too. Just make sure they know how to remove a tooth correctly. You said it was a holistic dentist, right? He should know then....I traveled to San Diego to get a proper tooth pulling. (Does any of this sound familiar? Getting a tooth pulled correctly is kinda like getting implants out correctly!) Guest guest
Oh wow, my very first root canal was my left molar, 2nd from the back! How weird is that!!! I ended up having the last molar pulled as well, as I think the infection traveled to the other tooth, and anyway, after two failed root canals, I ended up with a partial after all. I hear ya, PH, on feeling ancient. I hate the fact that I have missing teeth, but OH WELL. I can dance at least, which I couldn't with those rotten teeth. My left knee was in so much pain and I was even limping, but when the teeth were removed, so was the pain in my KNEE! Guest guest
Oh, Lynn, I would never have a root canal. I have had all my amalgams removed, and this must be done correctly. My dentist used a dam, and he was very careful when he did this, because I have MVP. He put me on a massive dose of antibiotics before the procedure, and he did just a few at a time. Honey, make sure that the dentist knows what he/she is doing. This is sad, because in many cases the dentist does not know about the risks. I am so sorry that this has happened to you. It is best to remove the root, and to have no tooth at all, than to have these deadly mercury fillings. My brother had one false tooth, and it was perfect, because he could take it out to clean it. Lynn, your teeth can cause so many problems with your health and your heart. When they remove the tooth, you will no longer have a root canal. The bridge sounds better, but in my opinion the long-term effects of Titanium are not known yet. We have a friend at the university who has Titanium knee implants; however, he is in his late sixties. I should call my dentist to see if he agrees with me. Honey, I am not a dentist, but I have spent so many hours with our Oral Pathologist, who is also our friend. He saved my life in 1991, when he was the first to tell me that my breast implants were killing me. Please get well soon...love you so.....Lea...Stay home and rest. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`````` Mercury Detox - HELP!! Long post - sorry! Hi Ladies ~Okay, this is going to be talking about my tooth - so for those of you who don't have time, please skip. I need some advice!!! If I have offended anybody, I apologize but I trust you women more than doctors OR dentists!Love, CLynn
Guest guest
Lea, We are on the same page. I am going to have the tooth removed. No more root canal. I am also opting for the bridge. I don't trust anything to do with the word implant. FDA says breast implants are safe - not. FDA says tooth implants are say - hum? I'd rather go toothless and boobless. I did see a holistic dentist. He did not use a dam, but did use the ionic suction vacuum. I wished he'd used both. Luckily I am on antibiotics right now for a recent surgery. I plan to do the ionic foot baths, maybe some massages and a colonic if at all possible to get any vapors of mercury out of my body. Thanks for the post. I am glad I asked everybody before agreeing to the implant. I had a gut reaction the minute he said implant - NO NO NO! Love, Lynn > > Oh, Lynn, I would never have a root canal. Guest guest
Lea, I think I posted some info on the possible risks of titanium when I was researching my dental issues. I'll find those posts. There is some concern over titanium, though those who want to promote it would say it is completely safe. Just like breast implants. Here are some links about the dangers associated with titanium implants: http://www.holisticdental.org/titaniumtoxicity.html (Excerpt: Titanium has historically maintained the reputation of being an inert, and relatively biocompatible metal, suitable for use as both a medical and dental prosthesis. There are many articles supporting these beliefs, but more recently, there is scientific evidence that titanium, or its corrosion by-products, may cause harmful reactions after traveling through the circulatory, or lymphatic systems. These corrosion by-products can cause reactions in the blood, fibrotic tissue, and in the osteogenic cells.) and from Dr. Hal Huggins site: http://www.hugginsappliedhealing.com/faqs.php 3. Are implants considered a safe replacement for my teeth? As Professor Doug Swartzendruber of the University of Colorado once said, " anything implanted into bone will create an autoimmune challenge. The only difference is the length of time it takes for a disease to appear. " We have personally seen numerous diseases with an unknown origin that may have been created by implants. It is a popular dental treatment, but not recommended for people interested in maintaining the best health. Patty > > Oh, Lynn, I would never have a root canal. Guest guest
Thank you Patty!! My dentist wanted me to pretty much make the decision right then and there about the implant. I knew in my gut that it was not a good thing. My second thought was PH, you and the ladies on this board! I may have to changed dentist already. He is really pushing the implant on me and he is Holistic? I don't get that? He was telling me all the negatives about a partial and a bridge. He kept saying that he would do an implant. I kept saying I just got my breast implants removed and I don't want anything foreign in my mouth - hence the reason I am here right now getting this mercury out!! He said well people get it in the knees and hips all the time. I said yes, but I have a choice to not have a tooth. It would be much different if my choice was to never walk again or have a hip/knee replacement. Okay, maybe I am seeing red flags here. I need to get the rest of my tooth pulled out on Tuesday. I may need to call around to other holistic dentists. I wish I could go to the one you saw in Colorado Springs but it is just much too far to drive for me for dental work, especially because I can only really afford to do one every few months. Thanks again! Love, Lynn > > > > Oh, Lynn, I would never have a root canal. I have had all my > amalgams removed, and this must be done correctly. Guest guest
If I had to chose an implant, it would be titanium . . . because it's a very hard material. . . . As I understand it, the body can react to any foreign material. . . The chances of reacting to a material it can't tear apart (like titanium) is significantly less than with soft materials, like silicone. My concern is that women who have had breast implants are going to be so sensitized to foreign materials, they won't be able to tolerate life- or function-saving implants. I had a lens put in one eye after cataract surgery last spring . . . It still feels different. . . .Friends tell me they have absolutely no problems with their lenses. Makes me wonder! Guest guest
Rogene, That's good to know! My mother just had a Titanium implant put in her toe in December. I freaked out at first when she told me she was getting an implant in her toe and had no idea what it was made out of. It never even crossed her mind to ask. (Good Lord!) So I went with her to her surgery and asked the Dr. I was still real concerned about the titanium though so thanks for sharing. I'm a implant freak of any kind now! Guest guest
It seems that there are corrosion by products with titanium, according to some recent scientific research. The body CAN break it down, though it is generally more corrosion resistant than other metals. I posted that article today about the toxicity of titanium. It said, as a final statement: " In conclusion, titanium and its oxidizing by-products are not as inert and biocompatible as once believed. Advances in research technology are showing changes to immune reaction cells in the blood, and the lungs. " Patty > > If I had to chose an implant, it would be titanium . . . because it's a very hard material. . . . As I understand it, the body can react to any foreign material. . . Guest guest
Lynn, I am not telling you what to do; however, anything regarding the word implant frightens me. I have 4 screws, and a plate in my left foot, and I wonder if it is causing problems. It is too bad that you are having these problems when you are trying to get well after being explanted. Honey, I am happy that you are having this tooth removed. You are lucky to have a holistic dentist, because he might suggest some other therapies. The women in this group are the best source, because many have the experience to help you. Guest guest
Patty, thank you for helping with this. had a root canal, and I am worried about him. He has all of his own teeth; however, his gums are receding a bit. Our dentist told him that flossing, and good dntal hygiene could make this condition better. Honey, please listen to our Lynda, because you are doing too much. When I see women posting in the early hours, it always worries me. We all love you, and thank you, for all of the support that you continue to give. Take care, love you.........Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`` Mercury Detox - HELP!!
