Guest guest
Krista, You look so good in that picture, by the way. You look smart and thoughtful, as well as pretty. There are still stereotypes about who GETS implants, and now there are stereotypes about who speaks out against them. Your photo isn't what one would expect, because frankly, you don't look like "the type" to get implants, much less an anti-implant activist. I think people still picture hippie types, or Gloria Steinems as activists. And there you are, looking like someone anyone might know, yet getting important information out to the public on the realities that have been swept under the rug by physicians and the TV shows like Dr. 90210. This isn't meant to offend you or anyone else on this board. It's just that I have talked to a lot of people about this recently, and there are still a lot of people who think it's just strippers & Hollywood people who get implants. So to see a "normal" woman not only having had them, but speaking out against them, has a lot of shock value to it. I can see why they used your photo. And again, you look fantastic in it. Guest guest
I have to agree with what Ballerina says. When I first saw Krista's pics on Myspace, I felt I an immediate sense of relief and comfort by her appearance. She looks and acts like the All-American girl next door which I think speaks volumes in getting her message across. It just goes to show it can happen to anyone. And yes, if she were a stripper with 800cc's who was ill, I don't think the message would be taken as seriously. Love, PH > > > > Way to go Krista ! ! You are reaching millions ! > > Saving lives ! ! Guest guest
Ballerina- Thanks for your compliment on the picture. I totally agree with you and know exactly what you are saying. I think there has been a stereotype for many years about who gets implants....stippers, Hollywoods, etc. However, more and more just regular, every day women are getting them (and are also getting sick from them!) I know that stereotype is definitively changing though as implants become more and more popular with everyday women. That to me is a scary though because as more and more women start to get them because (like me) they think this is just what everybody is doing, and since everybody is doing it 1) I have to do it too to fit in, and 2) I won't get sick because they are so widely accepted. Women are definitely not being fully informed of the complications and health problem that can arise. I also agree that that there are definitely stereotypes of women who are speaking out against implants. Myself and no one on this forum is speaking out against them because we are hippie, feminism activists that think every woman needs to be all natural or anything like that! We are speaking out against them because they made us sick! I, in no way consider myself an activist, I just want women to know the things that I did not know when I entered into the world of implants. If they hear what I have to say and still decide to get them, then I have no problem with that. I just want them to know! It was funny because when PH and I were trying to share our experiences on a certain forum last week, so many of the girls were like " oh, don't listen to these women, they are just anti-implant activists, who have never even had implants. " I wanted to scream " no, I am an average 29 year old, normal woman who had them and loved them for 4 years! " I wanted so bad for them to actually see what I looked like and know that I was in their exact same shoes 5 years ago. The only thing they could see was an older, hippie-type, anti-implant activist on the other side of those messages, that is sad and that is why we need to speak out, share our experiences and show these women that we are not what they think they are. Oh, it didn't help that a certain someone that is the leader of that forum called us " nasty women that she ran into years ago in Washington who told her that they wished she would die. " These are the kind of stereotypes that we need to break!! Anyway, I totally got off on a tangent there. But, thank you again for your compliment. Yes, I am just your average all-american girl. :-)Krista > > > > Way to go Krista ! ! You are reaching millions ! > > Saving lives ! ! Guest guest
Krista, You have no idea of the ugly things they've said about women who are anti-implant! . . . Ilena bore the brunt of it all! . . . It got really, really nasty! I think the main thing we need to do is to continue to treat all women with respect . . . implants or no. We definitely need some younger women to take up the cause - just like many of our women. When I went to D.C. a couple years ago, we were thrilled to be joined by a few young women! . . . Most of us had been around for years! If women knew what implants are doing to their bodies, they would be up in arms! Rogene
Guest guest
Rogene- I totally know what you are saying, I can't believe how disrespectful and nasty women can be to each other. I think a " certain someone " who is the leader of an implant forum still thinks that it is the same ol' women who are speaking out against implants. She is completely and totally wrong and I wrote her a letter explaining that to her after she called me a " nasty woman. " She preaches how she wants all the women on her forum to " know the truth " but as soon as you say something negative about implants on her forum, she blocks you from posting on her forum. To me, that is the opposite of making sure all of the women know " everything. " It's really sad, and I hope that young women will start speaking out and not be embarrassed or ashamed to stand up for what they believe in. Speaking out will only help other women see the truth, be informed and hopefully in turn it will help them from having to go through what we have been through and are going through.
