Guest guest
Terry, Maybe when you get the other results you will have a better idea. How long? I can't help with 'how hyper is 3.0' because of my wonderful, keep her hypo to fix the BP doc, <sigh> So I never went that high. I would think if the other numbers were high, then the combination would be giving you more obvious symptoms. Right? How is your paper sensitivity coming along? It is brand new, and you have been more hyper than this for sure. I hope you get the rest of the results soon. The guessing is possibly the hardest part for me. I know what you mean about wishing someone would just tell you what to do. I had a hyper feeling this morning, and went through a lot of figuring. Ended up not knowing what to do for sure. It is so frustrating. I ended up taking a tiny bit of lemon balm, but I know that now I will not get a true lab reading for MORE time. Oh, well. maybe I should have waited it out. Because by the time the lemon balm had obviously worn off, I felt like a fool. There does not seem to be any problem. I think ??? Dang, now I have another month, before a lab test will tell me how my own body is doing. I like the thought of what Val went through. Thank you. I had forgotten about your final up and down Val. So thank you too, for having posted while it was all going on. -Pam- only saying I don't know but I sure do understand.

Guest guest
Terry, This may have no bearing on your current situation, but I thought I would mention it. I tend to have higher lab values if my blood is drawn in the afternoon as opposed to a morning draw. Doris
Guest guest
Hi Terry, Let's just say I've had an FT4 of 3.0 from taking extra Armour on occasion and the only symptoms I had were eye twitch. It's hard to say how hyper this is, but we see levels as high as 7.0 or 8.0 on occasion. What's important here is that your FT4 did rise and you will have to increase your ATD dose a bit until you reverse things. This is likely part of the normal waxing and waning of symptoms that you hear so much about. Sometimes you can figure out the triggers, like added estrogens, dietary indiscretion such as too much processed food, stress, etc. And sometimes the warmer weather, and your need for less thyroid hormone, can cause increased levels. Many of us hypo people have to adjust our replacement hormone with the seasons, taking less in the warmer weather. I would like to see your new TSI level too. This is the best clue to see if you have an active autoimmune process going on. Take care, Elaine

Guest guest
Terry, why don't you get a mercury level too if your doctor will order it? I've been hearing from several GD people who were eating lots of seafood and two have high mercury levels, and mercury is known to trigger autoimmune thyroid disease. Guest guest
Hi Terry, I can't offer any advice for you, but just want you to know I'm thinking of you. I do have a question, which is probably a silly one, but, within 48 hours of labs could you have eaten something that has hidden iodine in it that maybe you weren't aware of? I know how careful you are of your diet, but I also know if I eat shrimp within 48 hours of labs, it gives my labs a hyper look to them, well high normals when I run low normals lately. And since you aren't feeling all they hyper, am just wondering here. Hang tough Terry, you will get it sorted out! Guest guest
Jody, I have never noticed a problem from seafood, which I love, so have paid little attention to that--but I did a Cajun shrimp appetizer with my 2 cooking classes Wednesday and Thursday evenings. I only ate 2 shrimps each time, though, so barely an ounce a night. But I have been eating a lot of fish lately, had Alaskan halibut Tuesday night for dinner. And I made a halibut dish with the classes last week. I suppose there could be a cumulative effect. I'm very careful about other iodine sources, vitamins and salt specifically. My overall feeling, though, is that this has been creeping up on me for a while, and that I have " failed " in reaching remission. Which is not making me feel wonderful, mentally. I was so hoping, especially after all the careful and patient dose-lowering since August. Guest guest
Pam, I hope all the lab results are there tomorrow. I'll be calling the endo first thing. I wish I had been home to talk with him yesterday. My paper sensitivity seems to be getting much better. It peaked the day I wrote about it, and has diminished somewhat every day since. I'm sure my endo would have kept me hypo if I'd gone along with him on dosage, he had me on 15 mg. when the August tests showed me pretty normal, and I started reducing on my own. I absolutely am sure that my " natural " state is at least slightly hyper, and going even a tad hypo makes me miserable. Falling asleep last night, I was thinking that if THIS is really hyper by the numbers, I've probably been at least this hyper most of my life. I just don't want to get worse. Why do you have to wait a month for the labs? Are you saying it takes that long for the effects of the lemon balm to leave, or are you on a schedule? It sure sounds like you are struggling to interpret your symptoms just like I am, and I know that having the early labs was essential for me. Isn't it wonderful for us to have this group to help muddle through? I would have been at sea without the proverbial paddle, without everyone here! Guest guest
Elaine, Thank you so much! You make it all sound much less dramatic than what I'd built up in my mind. Do you think I should ask for a TSI right now, or just wait a month and do it all together, since I know I will want more labs to see if the dose increase was enough or too much? The normal waxing & waning of symptoms--how big a swing are we talking? I guess everyone is different, huh? I don't think I've any added estrogens, my cycle has stopped, although I have had a bout of hot flashes lately that I guess could indicate that estrogens are higher. I don't eat processed food much if at all, but I did eat a lot of seafood lately. And, I've been less stressed than my norm, since it's been a slow period with catering. I'll ask for the test for mercury too. That should be interesting to see. I hadn't realized it was a trigger, only thought about the iodine content of seafood being one. Most of all though, I am relieved to have some reference to how high FT4 can go. I will have an interesting conversation with the endo tomorrow, for sure. Again thanks, Terry >

Guest guest
Terry, mine fluctuated from .7 to 3.2 during my crazy phase. Like I said too, neither ER doc or Endo could explain varying degrees or weirdness of symptoms. Heart palpitations and extreme fatigue one week and the next sweaty hyper witn my pulse rate through the roof. It's just a weird thing, but try and not get too too worried!! Hang in there. Guest guest
Hi Terry, You haven't failed at all! This disease has no rhyme or reason in how it flows and we all do the best that we can with whatever we are doing to feel better. I'm surprised you haven't noticed a difference with the seafood. Even with my thyroid ablated, I still have some function and when I go overboard, especially with shellfish, I can feel that old hyper buzz. Maybe next time, the 3/4 days before you have labs, you stay away from that and see what happens? Couldn't hurt. I think the one thing I would hold onto if I were in your position is that you don't feel hyper, so maybe something else is playing with the labs? Don't know, just guessing. Maybe going by more how we feel than the labs is better than letting our labs tell us how we should feel...I am so guilty about this too, especially lately.
