Guest guest
Hey everybody. I'm still studying oil properties and I just realized that everytime I hear that 'such and such' oil makes hard soap, somewhere in the back of my mind, I keep thinking dry and crumbly. I know they're not the same and that making a hard bar is the goal. But my second batch of soap had about 41% Olive oil in it and when I trimmed it (4 days after unmolding) it was very dry and a few spots were even a little crumbly. Overall, they look fine but I guess I just need to understand which oils (if any) are known for making dry and crumbly soap. Or if it's a certain combination of oils that cause this, I'd like to know that too. I definitely don't want dry and crumbly soap. =) Here's the recipe for my 2nd batch: Castor - 1 oz (added at trace) Coconut - 8 oz Olive - 15 oz Palm - 6 oz Lard - 6 oz (I made this batch before I learned that Palm is a substitute for Lard) Lye - 5 oz Water - 12.5 oz Any advice you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks!
