Yes it is true Dr Thayer does make his pouches bigger...as for the ketsup,

I have no idea if this would be a problem for you as I can eat any amount of

sugar with no dumping..(but then again I do not eat much, lol) Please do

stay on the pureed foods for the whole month..as it will let your stomach

heal..I know it is tempting, but stick with it. Good luck..MJ

Peg,

I do fine with ketchup. Try a little and see how it sits with you.

Usually, you’re not eating enough for the sugar to be a problem. When I

was on Dr. Thayer’s 4 weeks of pureed foods, he told me that scrambled

eggs and mashed potatoes were okay, as long as they were well chewed.

That the only thing that got me through those first 4 weeks. You could

call his nutritionist and ask if that’s okay.

Peg,

I eat ketchup within reason. I used to love it on my fries, but since I

don't " do " fries anymore, I rarely have a need for it. I do however when

ordering a burger or whatever, will get my " catsup " (my mom's from the

midwest).

I was able to eat soft solids at 2 weeks out, I had Dr. Randall. I was told

I could, as I was completely unable to tolerate liquids for god knows what

reason (shakes, etc.), and needed my protein somehow...I'm now 2 years out,

and my pouch is just fine I'm assuming! Grant it, I can eat an average sized

lunch portion now without any problems...lets hope it stays that way!

Hi Peg,

Some Dr's even have people eating solids in the hospital before they leave,

just chewing very very well. Each Dr. is different. I ate some solid food

at about 2 weeks out and had no problems. I didn't eat a lot of solid

foods, but some here and there. If you can go a whole month just doing

pureed, more power to ya. I personally couldn't do it. Heh. Oh yeah, I

eat ketchup all the time. Everything in moderation though.

hi peg,

i had my surgery 5-1/2 weeks ago (RNY) and i can eat

almost anything i want. i was on stage five less than

2 weeks after my surgery and the only problem i had

was in trying to finish an egg the first morning, but

other than that, i've had no problems. however, i

haven't tested sugar yet. i myself would be hesitant

to see if i could tolerate ketchup, but i truly

understand having to test the waters on our favorite

foods.

as for my weight loss, at my first weigh-in, i lost 20

lbs, which was six days after surgery, but haven't

been weighed since (i have a doctor's appt. tomorrow).

even though this shouldn't be about numbers, i'm

still anxious to get a number!

good luck on your recovery!

kelli

Thanks everyone who answered my question about ketchup and eating solid

food before the 4 weeks is up. Can't wait to have some ketchup next

week. ;)

I am going to wait until the full 4 weeks is up before I proceed to

solids. The pureed stuff isn't all that bad, but the baby food is

BLECH!
