My journey with Ivanhoe began a fewmonths ago when I packed my mini cooper with as much as the little carcould fit (which wasn’t much) and made the two-day trek from chillyConnecticut to sunny Florida. I graduated summa cum laude from theUniversity of Connecticut with a bachelor's degree in Communications. Thisis my first job in television news. Working at Ivanhoe has opened my eyes to a field that is ever-evolving andcoming up with new, innovative ways to improve people’s quality of life.Not a day goes by that I don't learn something new working here. On my first day at the office, my generous coworkers welcomed me to theirteam with lunch at Paco's -- a small authentic Mexican restaurant locatedhere in Winter Park, Fla. Being the Mexican food lover I am, I couldn'trefuse the offer. I ordered a cheese quesadilla and made sure to spice itup with a little hot sauce. Never did I expect that I would soon learnthrough Ivanhoe that the red stuff can also put a little kick in yourstep. Interested in learning more? The hardest part about leaving my home of 23 years was leaving my family.As my grandparents get older, I make sure to value each and every day Ispend with them. My grandfather has suffered from several strokes, so Iwas interested to learn about a new infrared laser that is helping savethe injured brain cells of stroke victims and Iraq war vets. According to the Administration on Aging, by the year 2030, 20 percent ofthe population will be over age 65. As the population ages, medicalproblems are becoming more complex; but health professionals are using anew approach to treat patients more effectively -- hybrid surgery. Doctorsfrom different specialties are working together to perform life-savingoperations. What an incredible concept! Now, if only they could combinethe grocery store and laundry mat. Then, maybe I could get my chores donefaster.In more incredible brain news -- doctors have found a new way to targetbrain tumors and reduce the amount of radiation a patient is exposed to.And for all the parents out there with young children, you also won’t wantto miss this surprising story: If your child is having difficultyconcentrating in school, don’t jump to the conclusion it’s ADHD ... itmight actually be a sign of something completely different.
