We have had family in town and a bunch of other stuff going on, so I

have been offline for a few days...

I thought I was doing better, but boy, the last few days have been

something... To review, they found elevated uric acid in my 24 hour

urine test-at almost twice the level it should be. (Uric Acid

elevation is used to diagnose gout.) The doctor put me on a drug

(Allopurinol) to keep the uric acid at lower levels, in hopes it would

help avoid kidney stones, which can result from too much Uric Acid.

Doc #2 ran bloodwork looking for elevated Uric Acid in blood. This

should have been done before the medication was taken. As a result,

the bloodwork showed normal levels, since the medication skews the

results...

Gout? How can I find out if I have it now??? Surprise, surprise... The

gold standard is to do a joint aspiration; if Uric Acid is in the

joint, then VOILA, you have gout for sure... I am soooo excited about

the prospect of that!!! NOT...

Allopurinol can cause nasty gout flareups in the beginning of

treatment, due to sudden changes of uric acid levels in the blood. I

have no idea if this is actually gout, but I have had the worse joint

pain I have ever had off and on the last couple of days or so. Which

makes me wonder...

I suspect this has been going on now since early last year, but it may

have been masked by the Prednisone. I have been unable to get my dose

back down to maintenance level for months now. Dose goes down; pain

level goes up...

Anyone have anything like this? The number of wierd things going on is

just ridiculous and impossible to keep up with...

Thanks Lea. I don't know if I have the same thing wrong in the knee, if it is gout or if it is what I though at first, which was I turned it wrong and strained it getting out of a stubborn, aging recliner...

Cathie, thank you for dropping in for a while. I worry about you, because you are having so much pain. Gout is a mystery disease, because many years ago a doctor told me that I had gout in my big toe. We know that people who  eat rich foods and drink alcohol are at risk for this disease. I know that is not true for me; however, remember that medicine is a mystery. Could you have what I have? The doctor told me that I have a tear in my knee joint, and it will not heal....never. My rheumatologist will be calling me tomorrow, and he will explain why this has happened to me.

Honey, never say never when you are dealing with implant related diseases. We just never know what could happen next. Women who have had good plastic surgeons, who took the time to clean everything off their chest walls, are better. I know many women here who had good care and are symptom free...wonders me! Uric Acid is something that my rheumatologist might comment on. I will let you know.

I'd be interested in hearing what he has to say about the Uric Acid. Have you ever had a 24 hour urine test for this? If I had not had the 24 hour urine, I guess I might never have known about it, unless it showed up in bloodwork. However, the doc said no one would have seen it, unless they were actually looking for it...

Sending love to you........Lea

Hi Cathie,

I happened to come across this post of yours when I searched your

name because I wasn't sure who you were. I must have missed your

posts over the last year.

I just wanted to tell you that I too had high uric acid. My doctor

from Mercola's office told me that my elevated uric levels were a

sign of heavy metal toxicity and so he had me do a hair analysis.

Sure enough I was high in mercury and aluminum. I don't know if

you've had an analysis done but if you're still struggling, it might

lead to some answers...although it takes a while to chelate.
