Guest guest
Hi,Could you or would you mind telling me the breakdown in weight and age? I'm 55. I'd really be interested in seeing what the author suggests. I don't have the book.DebbieSubject: Re: New Here Just JoinedTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Friday, June 4, 2010, 1:42 PM Hi, I'm a WW veteran too, having done it numerous times over years and even becoming a lifetime member. After the doctor suggested I lose weight for my HBP, I went back to WW about two years ago. I lost about 40 pounds, but found myself obsessive and feeling crazy about food, my weight, the number of points I could eat per day, exercise and being the perfect WW member. What an insane way to live; I always felt like I was one bite away from a binge. And you know, if I really admit it, I looked pretty awful and was underweight! In the IE book, the age breakdown of the weight charts was a real eye-opener for me! I'm almost 60 years old and was thinking when I lost weight like I was 25 again! Although I'm a little overweight right now, IE has helped me stabilize my weight. And I would rather be a little heavy and at peace! I weigh periodically and find that if anything it reaffirms that the IE process works! Best wishes, Jeanne

Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Tribole and Resch's suggested adult weight chart is broken down in weights for 19-34 years and 35 years and over and their heights. Please let me know how tall you are. That's the first time I've seen a weight chart broken down like that. I'm a 60 year-old female who is 5'7" and the weight range is 134-172, while the range for a 19-34 year-old female of the same height is 121-160. (They point out that the higher weights in the ranges are probably more suitables for males.) But seeing the heavier weights for older people got my attention. That's when I realized I've probably been chasing an unrealistic number or range for years. Jeanne

Guest guest
If it makes you feel better to know what your ideal weight range is, then by all means. But keep in mind it's just a number! The best way to know how your weight is is to be in your body. For me, getting to be around other women without clothing (in a bathhouse, skinny dipping) was incredibly healing -- somehow I could see, without clothing, that the body is just a shell for the soul, and appearance ceased to matter. But I realize I was lucky about that, to have that opportunity. But even if you realize your weight is too high or too low, what then??? Beyond that, it's really not about your weight. To me, IE is really about normalizing my relationship with food. Because of hormone imbalances, I may not be able to lose weight. But I feel really proud because I've almost entirely stopped eating when not hungry, and always stop when I'm moderately full. These are huge achievements! Losing weight would be a nice side effect, but I can't control that. I can only work on my behavior. And even deeper than that, reading Roth's new book, I'm realizing that IE is about being okay with me as a person, and trusting that I'm no more flawed than the next person. And that I am strong enough that I can live through whatever emotions I have, that I don't need to use food to bury them. So in a way, it's not even really about food, or weight! It's about trusting myself to be ok. Food has just been a tool, albeit an ineffective one with unpleasant side effects, for coping in the past... but I don't need it for that anymore. Ok, off the soapbox! This last part is a new and exciting discovery for me. Best, Abby hi Jeanne,i probably shouldn't ask...what's the range for a 50 year old who's 5'10 " ? if you don't have the time never mind, thanks a lot! jen > >> Subject: Re: Re: New Here Just Joined> To: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Saturday, June 5, 2010, 5:11 AM>> >> Hi Debbie,> > Tribole and Resch's suggested adult weight chart is broken down in weigh... Guest guest
Hi Jen, Of course, it is okay to ask!! The chart shows a suggested range between 146-188. If anyone who has is interested in taking a look at the chart, it is on pg. 178. The section on reaching your natural healthy weight helped put the weight issue in better perspective.
