Guest guest
Hi, this is the first time I have ever posted on a website, and it feels a little weird! Anyway, I am 53 years old, and I have had saline breast implants for about 9 years. Just recently I started wondering if my (recent) health problems may be related to my implants. I had never heard if health problems related to saline implants, until I started doing some research a few weeks ago, and came across this, and many other websites. Starting about last year, after having been totally healthy and active, and pain-free, ( except for some neck problems from an old accident, which was under control with stretching and exercises ) I have developed severe sciatica ( MRI looked normal ) severe right hand pain, stiffness and inflammation, joint swelling, stiffness and pain in my left index finger, mild pain in my left wrist, and then, a few weeks ago, a burning achy pain in both knees. My neck has gotten much more painful and stiff. In February I saw a Rheumatologist who told me that I have inflammatory arthritis, although all my blood work was normal. I have no family history of arthritis. I have to pace myself with chores and activities, or I feel terrible, which is definitely new for me. I've been looking into explantation, after doing a lot of research on this, and many other sites, but I don't want to go through the pain and expense of surgery, if it won't make me feel better. I would like to know what the group thinks, since I don't really have other symptoms than the joint problems. Is it just my old age ? ( ha! ) I wouldn't mind getting my implants out, ( i've never really felt comfortable with them ) but I wouldn't choose to do it now, unless there is a good chance that they are causing my problems. Sorry for the very long post. Would love to hear back from all of you. Kathleen

Guest guest
Hi Kathleen,Welcome to the Sisterhood. In all likelihood your implants are causing your problems.I'm married to a science guy too. The one thing I've made very clear to him is nobody knows better what it's like to be me and with or without my toxic bombs were to come out. They did after last summer after 19 years. I took another year to heal. By the way, Hubby stayed with me for the ride. Are you in the US or Canada? I'm up here in Canada. I have an amazing surgeon who saved my life (literally). That's how sick I got.I never liked my implants and am so happy they are out. Think of it this way, implants are only meant to be in for 10 years (or so they say) and you are at the 9 year mark. That should be reason enough to get them out before you do have trouble like I did. I didn't get them replaced and explantation was the most empowering thing I've ever done for myself.Stay close.Hugs,TraciKathleen Heckroth <kmmheck@...> wrote: Hi, this is the first time I have ever posted on a website, and it feels a little weird! Guest guest
Kathleen and Group, I read your post several days ago and apologize for my late response. I am one and a half weeks post explant and healing. Kathleen, your post really spoke to me. I felt the same way you did. I wanted every test to tell me my instincts were exactly right and it was my implants. The final decision for explantation came to me in that regardless of if my implants were the cause of my symptoms, I finally felt like I knew too much to leave the toxins in my body. My feelings about my implants and therefor my perception of them and my body was so bad, my decision was made. I am happy to tell you I have started to feel better! I too had many body aches pains, carpal tunnel, chronic fatigue, swelling, inflammation(very high blood tests for infection and inflammation). Since surgery on the 16th, no arm pain, decrease in swelling and body aches I and also less agitated. My family and friends said they can see changes in my face, less swelling and more color tone in my skin. I will cntinue to keep eth group updated on my progress. IN the meantiem, I am happy to tak with you and answer any quetsion you may have. Hope this post finds you all well on on your way to good health...
