Guest guest
Nothing exciting or awesome with me. I did have some binge issues last week--basically I just got sloppy and didn't do what I should have done to connect with myself. Back on track this week. The weather has been great, everything is growing like mad, and I have 600 sq. ft. of 2-3' tall grass to pull out of my tortoise pen. Been outside quite a bit, lol. Guest guest
Hi Sohni, The nice weather sure makes a difference! We are finally getting nice weather here in California. It really has an effect on my mood and energy. So when you had the binging, did you learn anything? I like to reframe binging and overeating as learning opportunities. A tortoise! That sounds like fun. How big is he/she? Guest guest
Hi Sue yes the group has been quiet lately but I am glad that you are doing well with the CDS and I wanted to ask you if you could post a review to the group after you finish reading it Eva Hi All: I've been busy sewing new spring clothes, altering old garments for a better fit (longer, shorter, etc.), planting our vegie garden, reading Geneen Roth's new book "Women, Food and God" and using the CD visualization tape from McKenna's book "I Can Make You Thin". I admit I'm already fairly thin, but I love how the visualization improved my self-image, energy and confidence. My husband is using the CD to improve his intuitive eating skills. McKenna promotes eating when hungry, foods you love, eating mindfully and stopping when full. So his CD messages help us visualize ourselves consistently eating intuitively and feeling confident and loving toward our bodies.SUE>> Is Yahoo hiccuping again, or is the group just very quiet of late? Now that everyone has seasonal job that starting pick up a bit more and more. Though my sister has a second job that may take her off for full time finally which she want to have the job for. Deaf clients who needs caregiver and such as that. Anyway, so I figure it's time stop to be lazy ever since I moved in here. She told me she is very understanding the stress strained me so bad when I was at old place where I have to do cleaning 8 times a day. That's way too much for me to keep up. Here where I can do it whenever I feel like and I still have much to do around here though I just am taking my time. Eliza

Guest guest
Hi Gillian, I'm in Sonoma County. Been a gloomy winter, although enough rain which we needed badly. I did learn from the binging, or at least I hope I did. I need to be really conscious of just turning my awareness switch off. It's difficult--binging is such a habit it takes no effort at all to do it, whereas IE is more work (not in a bad way, but just more). I need to try to not let my guard down at times when I'm more vulnerable to binging. I have 13 tortoises all together, of a few different species, adults to hatchlings. The biggest one is about 3 lbs. The big pen houses six adult Russian tortoises. Sohni Gillian Hood-son wrote: Hi Sohni, The nice weather sure makes a difference! Guest guest
Yes please do sue I Often like to read reviews from people who have actually read the books before I read them it helps me figure out if I want to read the book. Eva Hi Abby:I don't have the McKenna CD set. I just have the one CD, which comes with book, which I got from my local library for 3 weeks. I reread the book almost daily and listen to that one CD daily. His approach reaffirmed what I already believed about intuitive eating: Eating according to stomach cues (hunger and fullness) and learning to cope with emotions without eating is more important than learning to moderately eat all my former binge foods. If I focus on 'legalizing' without physical limits, I just sanction compulsive overeating whatever and whenever, without regard to why or how much I'm eating. Maybe I prefer boundaries more than I need freedom from rules. Ironically, my husband had videotaped the McKenna "I Can Make You Thin" series on TLC. So we've watched a few episodes, but I haven't learned anything his book and one CD already told me. Last night we watched the episode about aversive visualization to cope with cravings. I thought that approach was kinda' gimmicky. However, I realize I easily abstain from my food allergens, because recalling my painful allergy reactions keeps me from craving those foods. So aversive visualization helps me avoid food allergens. Likewise I can recall how I feel after I eat too much of certain foods. That helps me stop sooner or choose another food which feels better in my body.Abby: What do you mean by "When I am consistent with it I feel fantastic"? Did you listen to the CDs daily for a while, then stop and forget everything they suggested? Do those CDs offer a guided, relaxed visualization? The McKenna '4 golden rules' are identical to what most intuitive eating books suggest. Although some books offer a few more, most books emphasize eating only when hungry, foods you love, consciously enjoying each mouthful, and stopping when you feel no longer hungry or even full. The visualization exercise just helps me see myself consistently following those suggestions. Seeing myself do something helps me believe that I will do that. Then I can just relax and let what I see in my mind happen in reality. I noticed Eva also requested a review of Geneen Roth's "Women, Food and God". So I'll review that book in another post.SUE>> Hi Sue,> > Interested to hear that you've been listening to McKenna CDs. Ironically, my husband had videotaped the McKenna " I Can Make You Thin " series on TLC. That helps me stop sooner or choose another food which feels better in my body. Abby: What do you mean by " When I am consistent with it I feel fantastic " ? I noticed Eva also requested a review of Geneen Roth's " Women, Food and God " . So I'll review that book in another post. Guest guest
Hi, I'm still here! Nothing new really here, except I think I'm getting spring fever! Whoppee, today's the first day of spring! Think I need a spring getaway after the winter we've had! I'm proud to say I'm in the second week of my exercise plan, two days weights and three days walking, and it feels good! Those newly awakened muscles are still whimpering a little bit though. Also, I bought a slice of (previously off limits) layered cake (vanilla) that I enjoyed for dessert on St. 's Day. It was so rich though that half was enough to satisfy. But the good part is that I'm no longer afraid of that food and how I'll handle it. Guest guest
Sue, I mostly haven't used the other CDs. They are somewhat repetitive. Though I think there was one with the mirror exercise in it that was very helpful... but I've only listened a couple of times. I don't like the idea of food aversion techniques because the premise must be that some foods are " bad " or else that we are " bad " and out of control around certain foods. I think that I can learn to be in control around any foods. Allergic reactions are certainly powerful exercises in food aversion... but of course we don't do those on purpose! I feel exactly the same way -- that his gentle boundaries work much better for me to eat whatever, whenever, regardless of hunger. It doesn't feel like a rule to me -- I would doubtless rebel against it if it did. Abby  Hi Abby: I don't have the McKenna CD set.
