Guest guest
We have several women who have had their implants out following a mastectomy. Lynda is one of them, and she was successful in detoxing and getting her health back when she as close to dying from silicone poisoning previously. Lynda has been receiving chemo recently due to cancer that has returned and has been keeping us posted on her treatments. She is a warrior that has been fighting in the breast implant issue for many years. She has paid her dues and it's time for her to rest up and get healthy as well as she can now. I know that detoxing was a huge part of her recovery after explant. You can also see Eileen Swanson's site...she is a mastectomy recipient and breast implant survivor. Her website is at http://members.aol.com/sosalines/sos.htm It's terrible enough that you and women like Lynda and Eileen have had to fight the cancer....implants add insult to injury and are dangerous for women who have had cancer, IMHO. We will be here for you. Patty >> I am having no luck finding a surgeon who can see me soon (the soonest> one can see me is Sept), so I am forced to see one where I live and> hope for the best. Guest guest
Quiessence ~ I have had a surgery performed improperly. It resulted in 5 more surgeries . You dont want this to happen to you. These doctors that dont want to do it properly, are the ones that will botch you up, that is a sign to run run run ! ! DO NOT LET THEM MAME YOU... Please. When a surgeon does a good job, you dont have to keep going back for check ups..... I had a massive silicone spill, and each time I had surgery to remove more tumors that grew they had to detatch my entire chest wall. A good bit of my right pectoral muscle has been removed due to tumors being all in there. Their excuses are a total crock..... It just shows their lack of ability, and you do not want that. If they had implants in their man parts that were making them very ill, do you think they would take no for an answer ? ? NO they wouldnt ~ Trust and go to someone that is skilled and knows what they are doing. There is Dr Feng in Ohio, and Dr Huang in Colorado and Dr Kolb in Atlanta Georgia. I truly feel that you would benefit by having your surgery done by one of them. Or keep searching for one near you. General surgeon, thoracic surgeon, or breast cancer surgeon are all options so long as they know what they are doing. Enbloc with drain tubes. Accept nothing less ! You are worth it ! Guest guest
I live in Des Moines, Iowa. The problem is that the surgeons here say they cannot perform an explant due to all of the problem I could face (which I think is a crock). They say the pain that I would feel without them protecting my chest wall would be excruciating and that my pec muscles may never recover from the amount of stretching they have endured. I will fight to have them out, but if a surgeon refuses, what other choices would I have? I really can't afford to go out of state and keep going back for check-ups.... > > Qiessence ~ > > Where do you live ? ? Most important is > proper removal, not just getting them out. Guest guest
Qiessence, If I lived in Des Moines, I would go to Huang of Denver. She will do it properly and at the best possible price of any of the docs on the list. Lynda At 07:46 AM 7/20/2008, you wrote: >I live in Des Moines, Iowa. Guest guest
I made the mistake of not going to one of the specialists! It has been a nightmare.... please consider going to dr. kolb or at least one on the list. I had to have 2 additional surgeries. I ended up in the hospital for 12 days, and I was on 7 IV's per day. It is not worth going to a surgeon who does not know how to remove implants. I too wanted them out right away, but I wish I had done my homework and waited to see dr. kolb!!! Hoping for the best is really not the way to look at this. If they leave the capsulars inside, you will never get well!!! I am giving you this advice because I care!!! Please look into going to a doctor on the list. It is critical for a good outcome. Mastectomies and implant/explant question I am having no luck finding a surgeon who can see me soon (the soonestone can see me is Sept), so I am forced to see one where I live andhope for the best. Guest guest
I called Dr. Huang's office in Denver a few weeks ago and was informed by her office that she no longer does breast reconstruction. Guest guest
Thank you Dede! Dr. Huang no longer does breast surgeries - they suggested Dr. Rodgers in Denver who cannot see me for consult until Sept and would not be able to do surgery until January...I cannot wait that long. I don't know anyone in Ohio or I would be calling Dr. Feng - wouldn't be able to afford to stay there past the hospital stay and flights/gas are too high right now. Most here only suggest one surgeon - a plastics guy - but am thinking he will not want to remove them without replacing them. > > Quiessence ~ > > I have had a surgery performed improperly. > It resulted in 5 more surgeries . Guest guest
Quiessence,Keep in mind when you employ a surgeon, they are working for YOU! . . . . You have every right to request the best procedure possible. If you get the feeling they don't want to do it right, you're talking to the wrong surgeon. . . There are many other surgeons who could do the procedure - beside the few we regularly recommend . . . However, most of them will have to be pinned down as to what procedure they will commit to doing. It's your body. Your insurance/money. Your right to get what you want!Hugs,Rogene---
Guest guest
Carol,I just posted a message that may sound as though I'm disagreeing with you . . . I'm not! . . . I was trying to tell Quiessence that it's not what the doctor wants, but what SHE wants. The problem is that not everyone can afford to travel - there are other surgeons . . . We especially like those who don't have to be told how to do the surgery right. Did you think your surgeon was going to do an en bloc or total capsulectomy before your surgery? We've had a few surgeons lie to women - Hopefully very few.I wonder why Dr. Huang isn't doing breast surgery any more?Rogene
Guest guest
Quiessence,Everything the doctors are telling you is a crock! . . . Obviously you haven't found the right doctor yet. When you do, you'll know it!Hugs,Rogene
Guest guest
Quiessence,I think the surgeon you spoke to is full of **!Just ignore him and move on. . . You shouldn't have any major pain following explant without replacement. Some plastic surgeons look at implants as an annuity . . . The gift that keeps on giving them a sorry living. One told me (to my face) that he made money when women put them in, and when they took them out. He didn't give a **** what they did because he made money either way.Hugs,Rogene

Guest guest
I pretty much am in the belief that any doc who says they won't do an explant on a mastectomy patient has some kind of tie to implant companies... > > Quiessence, > > Everything the doctors are telling you is a crock! . . . Guest guest
Carol,That is really rotten of your surgeon . . . Maybe we need to get it in writing . . . and tell them we want it videotaped! The cost of en bloc removal is usually significantly more than just popping the implants out while leaving the capsules behind! . .I hope you've had more than a few words with him!Did you have any misgivings about him before surgery?Hugs,Rogene- Yes, the surgeon told me he would remove the capsulars... c Re: Mastectomies and implant/explant question Carol,I just posted a message that may sound as though I'm disagreeing with you . . . Guest guest
Ya know, I think , for many docs, removing implants is admission that there are problems with implants, and they are afraid of what they will find when they go in there, and this will go against their oath" First Do No Harm" as they KNOW the truth about implanted devices and chemicals, they learn it in med school ! Not doing explants helps them chase the lie...... I think they are all afraid of the outcome, and are being chicken about the whole thing. They are so happy to put them in...but asking them to take them out makes most of them very ugly to deal with. It's not right. Guest guest
Hi girl, This is a load of baloney that they are dishing out to you. Good grief! What kind of professionals are those idiots? (Sorry, it gets me so angry when I hear this garbage.) We have had thousands of women on our support groups over the years that have had excellent outcomes after explant, and in fact, many girls think their post explant breasts look better than their pre-implant breasts! And NO PAIN. They do not have any clue what they are talking about and they are obfuscating so that they don't have to do this surgery for you. What a bunch of weenies. I am sorry to say, but more than likely you will have to travel out of state for a proper explant if you can't get these guys on board with you. The only other option would be to take some of the many, many supportive letters found on our website and on the internet that confirm that implants may be taken out successfully and without danger to these guys if you want to take that risk, and politely request that they do their professional duty. However, this is such an important surgery that I would highly recommend that you start saving for explant NOW and do everything you can to raise the money so that you can have a proper explant as soon as possible. You're closest surgeon that we can recommend would be either Dr. Huang in Denver, CO, or Dr. Lu Feng in Cleveland OH. Both of these women are excellent doctors who KNOW HOW TO EXPLANT PROPERLY. This is of such vital importance, I can't stress it enough. If you get some idiot taking those implants out the wrong way, there can be troubles down the road. Some of our women have gone to great lengths to get those implants out right. They've sold off assets, dipped into retirement funds, took out a second mortgage, put it on a credit card, borrowed from friends and family, have fund raisers, bred dogs, whatever it took to get that money. You can do it. Patty > > > > Qiessence ~ > > > > Where do you live ? ? Most important is > > proper removal, not just getting them out.
