Please correct me if I am wrong, but is this plastic surgeon admitting that implants may have bacteria that cause capsular contracture, ? ? and that there is immune system response to this, as well as immune response to bleeding ? ? ? I also find it interesting that both the doctor and the drug company say that

about 7 % of peoples implants become ~hard infected balls ~ ( capsular contracture ) requiring surgery within the first year of implantation ! ! !

Surgeon cites procedures to reduce breast-implant pain

A plastic surgeon in Texas says he has developed a mix of surgical procedures that nearly eliminate the common problem of painful hardening of scar tissue around breast implants.

Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Fred Hackney said his use of antibiotics plus control of bleeding during surgery have reduced the rate of so-called capsular contracture to 0.5 percent of his cases – one of 198 breast implants in the past three years.

The build-up of hard tissue, which can occur in about 7 percent of breast implant patients, may lead to a second surgery to correct the problem.

In a press release, Hackney said he combined two sets of procedures that were first developed by medical researchers in the Dallas area:

Applying a combination of three antibiotics to the implants themselves. One theory about capsular contracture is it’s caused when bacteria that the implant picks up from breast tissue triggers the body’s immune response, Hackney said. Following standardized procedures for minimizing bleeding during surgery. A second theory about capsular contracture is that bleeding causes or aggravates the immune response, he said.

Hackney, who is an Allergan-certified implant surgeon, added:

A large-scale study conducted by the implant manufacturer Allergan Medical found that 7 percent of breast augmentation patients experienced Grade III or IV capsular contracture at some time within 1-year of their Grades III and IV are the most advanced stages of hardening, at which the appearance of the breast implant is affected and the patient may experience pain, and may require another operation to correct.Gas prices getting you down?
