Guest guest
Absolutely! My eating is always different when I am PMSing. Just go with it. The more you eat what you crave the better off you will be. Sometimes its all about fried chicken, sometimes chocolate, sometimes steak, and sometimes salad for me. My body knows what it wants. As far as not being in touch with hunger signals I get that way when I catch a cold, it can be frustrating. Just be gentle with yourself and stay in touch with your body as much as you can. I also went to see a nurse practicioner about my pms because it was so brutal emotionally and now I take a higher dose of anti depressants in the middle of my cycle so that the drop in hormones 3 days to 1 week before my period doesn't effect me quite as badly. It helps a lot. good luck,TanaTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Sat, August 14, 2010 9:15:24 AMSubject: PMS and IE Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone else has a challenging time practicing the IE guidelines while premenstrual? My cravings and hunger have always increased during this time (and I PMS for 2 weeks, so it's really bad!) Not only are the cravings worse, but I am having more trouble being aware of my hunger and satiety signals. Is this something you guys tend to struggle with when hormones enter the picture? Guest guest
I agree. I'm with Tana. I go with the flow and don't beat myself up. As long as I can see why I ate like I did, even if it takes hindsight, I feel I'm doing good.Speaking of PMS and things we try to help. I added Viactiv supplements to my daily regime and it seems to have really helped the mood swings and fit throwing. Calcium is on the list of things that could help, but not good studies have come out yet. Since I need calcium anyways, I figured it couldn't hurt.Dawn RTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Sun, August 15, 2010 12:18:55 PMSubject: Re: PMS and IE Absolutely! Guest guest
Thanks, Tana and Dawn! I feel a little better now, knowing that it isn't all in my head!!! Speaking of Viactiv- not sure what it is but I am sure looking into it:) Jen > > I agree. I'm with Tana. I go with the flow and don't beat myself up. Guest guest
It's that time of the month for me, and I am hungrier today and yesterday. I feel weaker than usual. I tend toward anemia, so I think my body gets hungrier right now because it is trying to replenish the iron, which is why I am craving meat. Yesterday, I made the mistake of ignoring my hunger because I felt it was too late and that I had eaten too much during the day because I was hungrier more frequently than I normally am. So I woke up this morning ravenous, light headed and shaky. I need to get out of the cut and dried diet mentality, and realize that my body may be hungerier on some days then others. Guest guest
Hi, Micci, It's so hard to erase those old diet mentality tapes, isn't it? I find myself thinking I "shouldn't" be hungry at certain times, too. Great that you put it together that this is an issue for you especially at PMS time.
