Guest guest
Dede, I am not going to push him about how this PET scan compares to the last one in his eyes. I will read it for myself and forward it to a doctor friend in Houston to read to a friend who runs the metastatic breast cancer research and treatment in Houston. I can pretty much figure out how I am doing by comparing the size of the tumors to the last PET scan. I will not see anyone for over a week after I do the scan, so I will go in and pick up a copy of the results on my own a couple of days after I do it. When I am ready to do #8, I will ask him how he thinks the Aug. PET scan, compared to the one previous, says I am doing and if he thinks the tumors will be gone after this treatment. I will ask him the probability based on how the last two PET scans were. I know that it is possible that I will have to do more than 8 treatments, so I am trying to prepare myself for the possibility of 10 treatments. He did say 8-10 when I started, so I know there is a possibility. Hope your dad gets some good answers. Guest guest
Lynda ~ Thank you for the well wishes for my father. I hope your chemo goes well today. They are really going aggressive with this, I guess that is how you get ahead of the game with those nasty active cancer cells. You are in my prayers ! Sending you lots of healing energies ! ! Guest guest
Dede Chemo went well. I did react again at the end, mildly, and had to do the reaction med, but all in all, it went well. I have a follow up on the 29th. My red blood count is still ok, so still don't have to do aranesp. It has to go below 10.0 in order to do it again. It is 11.4 and it slowly is going down, but that does not mean it will ever get to below 10 again. It might, and as it gets in the lower 10's, I will have them check it more often. Now I just have to get through the symptoms and get to the 5th of Aug. for the PET scan. I made an appt. with the doc for 3 days after the scan so we could discuss it. I was covered in ice while I did the chemo, my head, my wrists and hands, my ankles and feet, and drinking ice water the entire time. This is supposed to keep the circulation from being as active in the areas that are iced. I still have all my hair. Tomorrow I start taking decadron ( a steroid) to help keep the hand/foot syndrome away. I take 16 mg. for 5 days (take ativan to keep the hyper-reaction down), 8 mg. for 2 days and 4 mg. for 2 days. Then I have to be VERY careful about week 3 and 4 as the hand/foot thing tries very hard to develop about that time. All in all, I have to say I am doing well. I will know more when I do the PET scan and compare it with the last one. Hope your dad gets some answers soon. Guest guest
Hello Lynda ~ I am sorry you are dealing with PN, I hate it too, been dealing with it since 90 or so. It is really annoying and sometimes can be pretty painful. I hope that it is short lived for you and doesnt become permanent. Was Collie able to get that polyp removed? How is she ? Is she able to have the other surgery tomorrow ? ? How are you feeling now ? ? I hope much better ! ! Well, your scan is soon, I hope everyting looks really good in there ! ! Guest guest
Patty, Unless they come up with a miracle drug that kills cancer in the bones without killing the patient, there is no way to beat it. But I can fight it and live for a number of years before it gets me. Just keep praying that the anti-hormone works to keep the cancer cells from growing so that I can have a good life.
