Jen,

I'm extremely glad to pass on the resources. The Intuitive Eating book is

AWESOME. I was excited and connected with the book in the first chapter. I don't

commit to things easily and while reading that book everything clicked in a way

that it never clicked before. I've fallen in love with that book over and over

again.

At some point, definitely pick up When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies by

Hirschmann and Munter. I read WWSHTB about a year or so after reading IE. WWSHTB

took me to a another whole level. There's no other book that address mouth

hunger/cravings and self-care better than that one. I started reading that book

at chapter 11, entitled " Mouth Hunger " in the section called " Taking Over From

Food, " read until the end of the book and then went back and read the Intro

through chapter 10.

The fact that my life has been transformed and moved so much by the combination

of those two books inspired The Eat. Move. Love. project. I want to know that at

least 10,000 women worldwide are aware of this work because I know that so many

people can benefit from it.

down. I had assumed initially that Geneen's WFG was the one for me but bought IE

and am loving it. Geneen's book is beautiful and insightful and valuable but it

is also very abstract in ways and IE seems to speak to me more directly.

Honestly, it just helps me more! I LOVE this book!

Latoya,

I just searched for that book on half.com and found a copy for under $4.00!

Can't wait to get it:)

I wanted to ask you a question: Do you find that even after all of the time and

effort you have put into changing your life with food, that you actually do have

times when you have a full-fledged binge sometimes. I mean- not a tiny one- but

a really " out of control " one?

And your project sounds incredible. How can I be a part of it?

Best,

Jen

Jen,

Great! The IE and WWSHTB books were both born from the work that the authors did

with a variety of clients. By reading these books, I believe that we are able to

tap into the collective journeys and wisdom of many different women who have

been challenged with eating and body issues and who found a path to healing.

The authors and clients in WWSHTB wrote about not needing to binge anymore and

not thinking about food unless they were hungry. When I first read that, I was

completely skeptical. I was like how the heck is that possible? I am another

testament that yes, it is possible to have a normal relationship with food free

of the compulsion to use food to self-soothe/numb/trance out (i.e., binging).

Your clear awareness and connection with your hunger and fullness signals become

natural roadblocks, like guards standing at the gate (to your mouth), when the

compulsion/act of using food is triggered. That's a great blog post title... " Put

Guards at the Gate to Your Mouth. " Might be writing that one soon. :)

By learning to honor my hunger and fullness signals and how to deal with my

emotions without using food more and more, I have given the realm of eating back

to my body. It's like what wrote yesterday...Food becomes nothing

more.

Yes, I do have times when I start to observe a movement in me toward using food

when I'm really emotional or stressed. In those moments, I know that something

is up and I need to increase my self-care. I used to re-read that section in IE

that I referenced entitled " A Strange Gift " when overeating episodes recurred in

the first year to 1.5 year in the process. I used to feel like I spaced out into

a " food trance " when I had overeating episodes and like my hand had a will of

it's own as I was putting food into my mouth. I am ecstatic to report that, I

can't remember the last time I went into a food trance.

In the past few weeks, I've recognized how some of my friends and family are

still stuck in the old overeating patterns that plagued and pained me for most

of my life. Through them, I can see how far I've come. So, miracles of miracles,

I'm actually experiencing myself as a " normal eater. "

I'm tracking the reach of The Eat. Move. Love. project through Facebook and

Twitter: http://www.eatmovelove.com/. I'm also planning to create some business

and postcard size information cards about the project to post up. I'll be

sending the cards out to friends and family willing to post them on community

boards in libraries, cafes, schools, etc. I have some ideas for t-shirts too and

a walk. Can you tell that I'm inspired?! At the same time, I have to balance

time spent on this project with necessary time dedicated to bringing home the

bacon.

Another long response...I've embraced my writer recently. ;)
