Hi Dawn,I think the mental desire and the physical hunger can go hand in hand. Sometimes I won't feel physically hungry but I will find myself thinking about a certain food over and over. I will usually wait a little bit then if I can't get rid of the thought I will eat what I am thinking about. Sometimes I will take a bite or two and find out that I really am not hungry and I don't really want it but more often then not I will take a bite or two and realize I was hungry after all. By giving myself unconditional permision to eat I am able to eat the thing I want and stop when I am truly satisfied and move on to something else without a second thought about the food. If I try to avoid what it is that I want I tend to overeat at

somepoint in the near future and the obsession kicks in. The IE book talks about how if we eat what we truly want and get our desire met we actually will consume less calories than trying to avoid it or substitute something else. Tana
