Anyone try DMSA?

Has anyone here used DMSA, and if so, what were your results and where did you purchase it? I am sleuthing around and wonder if I may have triggered an immune response due to the silica (syclovir) I was taking. I stopped taking it two days ago but still feel pretty bad. I know there has been speculation that those who react to silicone may also react to silica.

I had saline implants for a couple years with no problems other than contracture. I replaced them with silicone and symptoms began a few weeks after and went downhill from there. I think I may be very sensitive to silicone and maybe to silica as well?

Bindi,

I used DMSA under the supervision of a naturopath, after we did a

chelation challenge and found some issues with some heavy metals.

(Silica is, of course, a semi-metallic element.)

He wrote a prescription for a compounded form of DMSA, which I used

for 30 days, waited a month and did another round. My test results

improved definitely.

On my own a year or so later, I obtained some DMSA without

prescription through a chiropractor, who carried the line of products

from Thorne Research. Their product is called Captomer, which you can

use for chelation therapy. It is DMSA, sold as a supplement.

It made me feel kinda icky for awhile, but it was more than likely

herxing reactions. There is a definite protocol you should use when

you take it, as DMSA is active for about 4 hours in the body. You

can do some research on the Andy Cutler protocol.

Let me know if you want more info if you choose to use it.

Hi Bindi,

I used DMSA for four months at the recommendation of Mercola's

clinic. It was rough (increase in fatigue, crying 'round the clock,

pretty miserable). I followed Cutler's protocol like Mercola

and Patty recommended. You can find more details about it on the

frequent dose chelation forum.

I would have a hair test before doing DMSA to reveal whether it's

really necessary. I know the science behind hair analysis says it is

not that reliable, yet I've spoken with many who have shown high

levels, chelated and have their health back. Another way to see if

you have high levels of metals is to do a provoked urine challenge w/

DMSA although there is debate as to the safety of it. I did it and

it showed I was pouring out mercury and lead.

I told my doc how rough the DMSA protocol was and he suggested I do

Field Control Therapy which is supposedly faster with less side

effects. While I've improved, I am still struggling but I've only

been doing it 4 months...it's supposed to take 6-8 months to rid the

body of a lifetime worth of toxins. Some people don't feel better

until a year. I'm going to keep up with the FCT for a few months, do

some fasting and then do hormones if I need to.

So sorry about your crash! I was hoping it would be the answer for

you. You'll get there...just keep persevering! Love, PH
