I bought some pants from JcPenney a while ago. I am only 5' tall so finding size 18 petite is a problem. They were Lee Riders but I don't know how much of a fancy pant :) you need. They also have sales a lot.

Hey Josie,

I know what you mean about plus sized clothing being hard to find, though I'm tall (5'11 " ) and I haven't particularly noticed a lack of taller pants. Though maybe it helps that most of the time I've been shopping for jeans or whatever at Lane . Actually, I've been out of the plus sized range for a few years now but have recently slunk back in because I gained some weight a couple of months ago. After looking for a good pair of capri jeans in all the big department stores and finding that I could only barely squeeze myself into most of the size 18s, I gave up and went to Lane . And actually had a really good time trying on lots of clothes that fit me well. So yeah, it would be great if there were more places that had good plus-sized clothing. I think I would actually greatly enjoy shopping in that case.

Here's an interesting article I read in the NY Times a couple of weeks ago about the plus-sized clothing industry:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/19/business/19plus.html?_r=1 & scp=1 & sq=plus%20sized%20clothing & st=cse

It's interesting, I never knew that it was more expensive to produce plus-sized clothing (because of the technical aspects of having to use a wider piece of cloth, etc). That explains some about why stores haven't adapted as much to having good-looking plus sized clothing.

Anyway, hope some of this is interesting or useful to you. Good luck!

Hi Josie,

I have a terrible time finding pants that fit and don't look awful.

I'm a pear shape, too, and have the same problem with waist/hip/thighs

fit. The best ones I've found are these:

http://www.lee.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?searchTerm=4951411 & catalogId=10901 & storeId=10151 & langId=-1.

Kohl's may have them, too, so you might want to check there first if

there's one near you. Lee jeans don't fit me well at all, but these

pants do. Hope this helped!

Hi Sue,

I have tried Land's End. I always have high hopes for them because

they're the only retailer I've ever seen that offers plus sizes and

actually let's you tell them what you want the inseam to be and they

just hem it for you to the right length, which is brilliant. But I've

ordered pants from them several times and have never once had one fit

properly. They seem to design for more of an apple shape and I'm more

pear shaped. Usually, on me their pants gape badly through the butt and

waist but squeeze my thighs like sausages. Not attractive or at all

comfortable. I've kind of given up on them (for pants, anyway, they're

fine for shirts and sweaters and things) because it starts to get

expensive to have to keep shipping stuff back.

But thanks for the idea. I'm definitely open to all suggestions.

I left out that I'm not tall (5' 5"), but the pants do come in tall

sizes that would hopefully work for you. Check the inseam lengths and

see.
