Mark,

Where did you get the idea an orange has only 15 carbs? It must be a really

small orange! Of course we can eat fruit, but you have to really look at the

amount. Most of the oranges and apples and pears sold in the stores are

about twice the size any one of us should eat.

Also, yes, you can get neuropathy in other places in your body, such as your

hands, stomach, bladder, intestines, heart and genitals. It seems mostly to

start in the feet, but gastro-pueresis of the stomach is another form as is

diabetic diarrhea. The a better you control your sugars, the less likely

you are to keep developing this-and it can calm down a lot if you stay

" good " for an extended period of time.

I wouldn't advice skipping a meal, even though you think it might help. Your

body will try to make up for the food you aren't eating, and your sugars will

probably go up. Maybe someone can explain this better, but I think that's how it

i too think it is very unwise to skip a meal. you are playing with trouble with

this line of thinking. reading doctor bernstins book may help you. i was to the

hospital yesterday and saw a couple of type two diabetics that had been there

for months after having their legs removed. please do not be one of them. it was

explained to me that they would not lisiten about good control. this is called

pay back. i encourage you to learn as much as possible about carb counting and

good control. karen

i too think it is very unwise to skip a meal. you are playing with trouble with

this line of thinking. reading doctor bernstins book may help you. i was to the

hospital yesterday and saw a couple of type two diabetics that had been there

for months after having their legs removed. please do not be one of them. it was

explained to me that they would not lisiten about good control. this is called

pay back. i encourage you to learn as much as possible about carb counting and

Skipping meals is absolutely *NOT* a smart thing to do.

When you skip a meal your body begins to think that there will never be any

more food coming along so when the next meal does come the body grabs every

carb it can find and stores it away for later use in case no more food comes

along for days and days.

This will cause the blood sugar to rise and the whole thing is a downward

spiral.

The best advice I could give is eat much smaller meals every two hours or

so. That way the body thinks there is a never ending supply of protein and

carbs available and it will do what it needs to do in order to maintain a

more even level.

Drinking plenty of water (not coffee, tea, slavored water or all that) will

also greatly assist your body in getting rid of the after effects of

exercise as the blood will be able to carry off the acids left behind by

muscle activity.

Good hydration could also help with those foot cramps for the same reason.

WITH WONDERFUL INFORMATION ON HOW TO CONTROL YOUR DIABETES AND LIVE A BETTER

LIFE, WELL THEY ASK ME IF ANY OF YOU ARE DOCTOR'S? WELL PROBABLY NOT AND

THIS IS THE REASON WHY THEY ARE STILL LIVING AND NOT SIX FEET UNDER. BUT

THEY ONLY WISH TO GO BY ONLY WHAT THERE DOCTOR IS TELLING THEM AND THEY

MOSTLY ALL FEEL REALLY BAD AND THERE A1C IS OUT OF SITE.

Skipping a meal for a specific purpose is acceptable. As a pattern, it is not.

Some day, when I go and get a colonostomy, I'll need to go without eating for

the better part of a day before the procedure. What happens when you skip eating

is, the body will look at other sources within the body for energy. It will grab

glucose from the liver and other organs, ultimately your brain if you go long

enough without eating. And in a diabetic, this internal shot of energy can

result in high blood sugar.

AS Cy stated, eat small meals. I like to tell people I eat 6 small meals each

day. " Pigging " out is not a good thing. When we go out to eat, and everybody

else is getting the buffet, I order off the menu. I'll never get my monies worth

at an all-you-can-eat buffet!

WHAT IS NEPHROPATHY?

I GET REAL BAD CRAMPING PAIN IN MY FEET. SOME FOLKS WHO HAVE BEEN A DIABETIC

FOR LONGER THEN I HAVE, TELL ME THAT IT IS NEPHROPATHY CAUSED FROM BAD SUGAR

CONTROL. I HAVE NOTICED WHEN I DO MUCH BETTER WITH CONTROLLING MY SUGAR FOR

WEEKS AT A TIME, THE PAIN IN MY FEET DOES SLOW DOWN. BUT IF I START BACK TO

EATING MORE CA4RBS THEN I KNOW I SHOULD THE CRAMPS OR PAIN STARTS COMING BACK

REALLY BAD IN THE FEET. SOME ONE ONCE TOLD ME THAT YOU CAN'T REVERSE THE

COMPLICATIONS CAUSED FROM BAD SUGAR CONTROL, BUT YOU CAN STOP THEM FROM GETTING

WORSE IF YOU GET YOUR A1C UNDER CONTROL.

NOW ONE MORE QUESTION PLEASE. WHY ARE WE WHO ARE DIABETICS NOT SUPPOSE TO EAT

FRESH FRUIT? I SEE THAT A ORANGE ONLY HAS 15 CARBS. LOOKS LIKE IF I WAS EATING

90 CARBS IN A DAY, THEN ONE ORANGE COULD BE FIT IN OK. I DO KNOW THAT SOME FRUIT

IS REALLY HIGHER AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED. THEY ALWAYS SAY IF YOU WISH TO BE

HEALTHY, THEN EAT LOTS OF FRUIT AND VEGGIES EVERY DAY AND WHOLE GRAINS AS WELL

WITH NUTS. I KNOW THAT FRUIT JUICE IS REALLY NOTHING MORE THEN SUGAR WATER AND

REALLY BAD FOR A DIABETIC. SEEMS TO ME GIVING UP FRESH FRUIT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA

FOR ANY ONE. BUT I DO KNOW IF THE ORANGE HAS 15 CARBS AND YOU DON'T EAT MORE

THEN 30 CARBS IN A WHOLE DAY, THEN THE ORANGE IS HALF OF THE CARBS YOU ARE

EATING IN THE WHOLE DAY. I GET TO REALLY WISHING FOR SOME THING SWEET AND

KNOWING THAT SUGAR IS REAL BAD. BUT I CAN EAT A ORANGE OR ANOTHER PIECE OF FRUIT

AND KIND OF MAKE MY SELF HAPPY AND NOT EAT THE CANDY OR THE DOUGHNUT.

SO CAN THIS NEPHROPATHY HAPPEN TO OTHER PARTS OF YOUR BODY BE SIDES THE FEET?

CAN IT CAUSE PAIN LIKE THAT EVERY WHERE IN THE BODY? SUPPOSE I SHOULD GO ON THE

NET AND JUST LOOK IT UP AND READ ABOUT IT. I HAD MY FIRST HEART ATTACK BACK IN

07 AND HATE TO THINK OF HAVING ANOTHER ONE ANY DAY SOON. THINK I WILL GIVE UP

EATING AND SEE IF I CAN JUST LIVE ON WATHER? I'M ONLY A TYPE 2 DIABETIC AND

MIGHT CAN GET AWAY WITH SKIPPING A MEAL ONCE A DAY AND LOSE WEIGHT AND CONTROL

THE A1C BETTER! THANKS FOR ANY GRATE INFORMATION YOU GUYS ALWAYS PUT OUT ON THE

LIST. I DON'T POST MUCH, BUT I DO READ EVERYTHING YOU TALK ABOUT. MOST FOLKS I
