Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Sounds like voodoo witchcraft doctoring. The doctor had absolutely no business taking you off the heart meds. Have you talked with anyone (your local GP) about doing a block and replace? You sound like a candidate. It basically consists of maintaining your ptu dose but adjusting your hormone dose accordingly. I haven't seem many doctors doing this but with help you might be able to work through your local general pract. The benefit of doing this is that the hormone replacement is faster reacting than the blocking ptu. Meaning you can feel better faster when doses need adjusting. Also- yes, the supplements will help with the rollercoaster you're on. It's a lot to figure out- hormones for thyroid or menopause? I've used the supplements to balance the life change. That eliminated one problem. S
Guest guest
I'm not on any hormones. Just Methimazole, and Atenolol. I remember one day when a young intern was in the office and the Dr asked me if minded if he felt my neck. I told him sure, no problem. While the Dr was explaining what was wrong with me, and when I first came to see him, I spoke up when the Dr asked the intern if there was a weight gain with HyperT. I immediately looked the guy straight in the eyes and told the upcoming intern, NEVER write off symptoms on ANY woman, just because of her age. It'll come back to bite ya, and yes, there is a weight gain after the weight loss, and it wasn't any fun. Of course, Dr O, didn't like it that I'd told the young man the answer (about gaining weight even though hyper) but he got over it. I'm just glad to be away from him. I'm back with the first dr who put me on meds who shook his head when I told him of what had happened so many times. Funny, the thing that orginally made me change to Dr O was that our insurance changed within weeks of me being put on the meds, so therefore, I had to have another Dr who accepted our insurance. sigh. I wish they'd put all the Endo's on all the insurance companies and just be done with it. It's not fun having to shop for a new Dr just because insurance changes. It sure didn't do anything good for me. Dr Lee, my orginal Endo is really wonderful. He's very thorough, is not afraid of questions, and knew I'd been reading up on the hyperT problems, as well as Graves. He's not intimidated with that and I feel much better after having him tell me that this should NOT have been done to me, as it was the meds that were keeping me close to normal ranges. He says even if we do have to do an adjustment, it won't be cold turkey like Dr O did to me. I have high blood pressure which those Atenolol help with also. Guest guest
Yes! Vets are good to send flyers to too. You dont necessarily have to visit the shelters, etc., just mail the flyers and follow up with a phone call. Or even call them first and tell them you are sending a flyer and to please post where it will be seen by the most people. I'm not sure what kind of bird it is, but you can check on the web for rescue sites for that kind of bird. You may want to contact one just to see what their advice is on finding a lost bird. They may have alot more ideas that I gave. I know at our shelter, we never took birds only because no one there knew how to take care of them. I think we referred people to the rehabs and vets. Some vets will take strays too. And of course, offering a reward is a plus. Put flyers out by schools too. Kids tend to notice things more than adults and may see the bird. Good luck. Guest guest
Thanks Bille, I've done everything I can think of. I've combed the neighborhood, given out flyers, put flyers up, you name it, I've done it. I've offered to 'buy my own bird back' or to get them one like her if that is their choice....., I've just not gotten any responses yet. I don't know if somebody found her, or if she is out hanging out in the trees. I am just devastated over this, but I keep on plugging away, regardless. The only thing I can do at this point is to sit back and see if anybody let's my posters appeal to their 'greed'. No animal shelters have been called about her, either. I've checked with everybody I can think of and the ones I've missed, other's have pointed out to me. sigh. Guest guest
Hi, Sandy, I'm so sorry that she hasn't come home or been returned to you Is your bird one of a pair or your only one? Someone on another BB has lost a bird and the bird's mate is grieving for her. .. I hope your flyers bring results very soon. Best wishes, Fran Re: Sandy >Thanks Bille, I've done everything I can think of. I've combed the >neighborhood, given out flyers, put flyers up, you name it, I've done >it. Guest guest
She is one of a pair, and I have a younger one who is very tame. The two that are a pair are not as people friendly, the lost one being the 'least friendly. Guest guest
Sandy, I'm sorry to be so long responding. Hang in there. I am sure it is frustrating to have to deal with the insurance situation. I had a real scare at renewal time. The group I'm with almost went with a plan that my Hepatologist is not a member of. Fortunately the doctor I worked for said he was willing the pay the small difference if it meant I could keep my doctor. I was very appreciative. So I do understand some of the emotional stuff you are going through. My Hepatologist is at a teaching hospital as I think most are and it does get to you when you have to explain to a resident, Physician's assistant and then the doctor what's happened in the last 3 months. However, I do feel that I'm getting good care and don't mind repeating myself if the Hepatologist takes as much time with me as I need and he always does. Let us know how we can help. Guest guest
, I know about explaining an explaining - the gastro that I was seeing that dx'd me with AIH...went to see him because of intestional problems was a teaching college. He is an excellent doctor and handled my case very well. I am doing real well and I didn't mind them using me to teach either. They did well in helping me. He told me what to do until I could get on with JPS Connection which is part of the county hospitol. They are going to do well for me also...just have to be patient. It will be a slow process to teach the new primary doctor about AIH and what we need to do to help keep it in control but maybe someday she will recognize what she has to do when she gets a new case and more likely she will. I can't believe that I am the only one here in the metroplex that has this disease. As far as the insurance - I have accepted the fact that I don't have it any more and I will just do what I have to do. :-)

Guest guest
Sandy, My mom fractured two vertabrae in her spine about 25 years ago in a car accident. Her pain was made worse by the fact that she'd had ruptured discs and back surgery around the same area of the spine as the fractures. It took several weeks for the fractures to heal and for the pain to settle back down. I would think that using ice or maybe a combination of heat and ice might be helpful. I also think muscle relaxers might help to keep the muscles near the fracture from knotting up and going into spasms. As for the pain med, if you are going to be taking it on a regular basis for a few weeks, I'd ask the doctor about prescribing a pain med that does not have tylenol in it. There's not a lot of choices for oral pain med without tylenol. You're pretty much limited to oxycodone or morphine. I know those both have bad names, but it's actually the oxycontin which is often abused. Oxycontin is long acting oxycodone and it is a very good and safe pain med when used correctly. The reason it has a bad name is that some people crush the extended release oxycontin so they can get a quick major high. As you can imagine, that's very dangerous. Oxycodone (one brand name is Oxy IR) is very similar to hydrocodone (the pain med in vicoden), it's essentially just another variety of a synthetic codeine. Oxycodone is in the class above hydrocodone/vicoden/lortab, etc. so the doctor cannot call in the prescription. You would have to actually go to his office to pick up the prescription. Anyway, just a suggestion. I worry about anyone with liver disease taking tylenol on a regular basis. W

Guest guest
Joanne, I should have been more clear. I will continue to see my local GI in Nashua, NH. I will have labs done every three months at St. ph's Hospital in Nashua, with a copy to Dr. Goldberg. If a problem occurs or I feel I need to see him then I'll make an appt. He doesn't feel I need to make the drive to the Lahey as all he will be doing is monitoring the labs. I take 2 Urso Forte a day and will continue with that treatment. Sandy C. Guest guest
Thanks for the nice reply, . It's amazing how many " ailments " are helped tremendously by losing even 10 lbs. My blood pressure has been borderline for years and always managed quite well by diet and walking. Now the diabetes will be managed by me in the very same way. There are so many things I really didn't know about diabetes - all the things I thought would work best to manage it (the sugar levels) are not necessarily so. My sugar levels have always been a bit wacky for years, but not so that a fasting glucose test came up in non-healthy level. I had actually believed I was hypoglycemic because of the sugar crashes. But with some serious food diary watching I realized I have not been eating ENOUGH carbs, that amazed me. I walk the track at the school nextdoor to the district office where I work, I walk until the pain in my sacroilliac says stop...then i sit for a few, then walk some more. I see my rheumy this week as well as my primary. The nutritionist also told me to make appointments with the opthamologist and the podiatrist. All these doctor visits are tiresome!! And each one seems to add one more thing for me to do before I can get into bed at night! Oh I remember the day when I was tired and just hopped into bed! Now it's an hour routine before I can get into bed - and that hour routine wakes me up so I have to lay there and relax so I can go to sleep....LOL Thank you SO much for the recommendation of " diabetes for dummies " ....I'm going to & Noble today to see if I can buy it! - thanks again!
