Guest guest
oh yes, indeed, love California! I was useing my stationary bike, the highest I got this morning at fasting was 197, but now I'm at 141 thanks again sugar Sugar Says: People are like stained glass windows: They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, But when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light shining from within. high sugar question hello all, just wondering for those of you who don't take insulin, but on pills to maintain sugars, like Metformin, or other meds, what do you do when your sugars are on the high side? I awoke to 197, and right now I am at 188, and all I had was a bowl of cherrios with slim milk, and coffee, with splenda and cinnamon. then for lunch I had half cup of tomato soup, and one slice whole wheat grain toast, no butter, with a slice of cheese. Usually I wouldn't of ate anything, but I have been drinking alot of water, and because of the metformin, I need to eat something, and it is going down, but I am jus curious what some of you do if, and when you are hit with high sugars? I don't take any form of insulin, so just wanting to know. thanks for patience. sugar Sugar Says: People are like stained glass windows: They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, But when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light shining from within. Guest guest
Hi Sugar, I am taking Medformine and I generally will let it run its course as I find that as a type II diabetic my sugar goes up after eating a meal and will come back down within a few hours. This usually happens after dinner so going to bed and sleepsolves the problem If its during the day I will do some walking or other exercise. On occasion I have pushed up the next dose a couple of hours. Guest guest
Hello, I usually go on the tread Mill during the day time. I am wondering though about something. Sometimes, my sugar level is higher before my first meal than after. When I eat something during the night, my sugar level is lower. I cannot do that all the time, because I need my sleep. Does anyone know about higher sugars before meals than after meals. Is there anything I can do about it. I use Metforman and Gliberide two times a day. I would like to avoid going on Insulin. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. nne From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of ckrugman@... Guest guest
Hi Chuck thanks, how about if I seperate my doses? I currently take 1000 mg of Metformin, in two 500 mg capsules, so I take them both in the a.m. what if I take one in the a.m., and the other in the p.m. would that make a difference? sugar 'My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. ~ Psalms 73:26 ~Sugar high sugar question > hello all, > just wondering for those of you who don't take insulin, but on pills to > maintain sugars, like Metformin, or other meds, what do you do when your > sugars are on the high side? > I awoke to 197, and right now I am at 188, and all I had was a bowl of > cherrios with slim milk, and coffee, with splenda and cinnamon. > then for lunch I had half cup of tomato soup, and one slice whole wheat > grain toast, no butter, with a slice of cheese. Guest guest
When you say " first meal, " are you talking about breakfast? If your fasting readings are on the high side, this is an indicator that your present treatment regime is not working. And, I hear you about not wanting to take insulin (injections), but try thinking of insulin as one of the good guys you haven't been introduced to yet. Really, insulin is your friend if and when you need it. Guest guest
Ann, If you take your meds before you eat, then your BG can be higher before eating and lower afterwards, especially if you exercise and then check your sugar. How much higher is your sugar before eating? If it is really high, then you need the doc to do something about your meds. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of nne Haas Sent: Saturday, January 01, 2011 12:11 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: RE: high sugar question Hello, I usually go on the tread Mill during the day time. This usually happens after dinner so going to bed and sleepsolves the problem If its during the day I will do some walking or other exercise. On occasion I have pushed up the next dose a couple of hours. Guest guest
Hi nne, Are you higher before all meals, or only first thing in the morning? There is something called the " dawn phenomenon " which is an early-morning rise in blood sugar, causing you to wake up high before breakfast even if you go to bed with a normal level. For Type 2s, sometimes eating a small snack containing some carbohydrates and protein helps them wake up in a better range. Exercising in the late afternoon or evening can also help. I do not know much about Type 2 medications, but make sure that the medications you are on are ones that do not cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), because it could also be that you are going low overnight and your body is overreacting, causing a " rebound " to a higher blood sugar level in the morning. Guest guest
Those are really reasonable BG Sugar. Always ask your doc, but the medication sounds reasonable to me. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sugar Sent: Monday, January 03, 2011 10:53 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: high sugar question Hi no, not really, in the a.m. before fasting they run about 115, to 120 and then before dinner no more than 130. so I am planning to try to take 250mg of my metformin in the am before my breakfast and the other 250 after dinner what do you think sugar ~Sugar high sugar question > hello all, > just wondering for those of you who don't take insulin, but on pills to > maintain sugars, like Metformin, or other meds, what do you do when your > sugars are on the high side? > I awoke to 197, and right now I am at 188, and all I had was a bowl of > cherrios with slim milk, and coffee, with splenda and cinnamon. > then for lunch I had half cup of tomato soup, and one slice whole wheat > grain toast, no butter, with a slice of cheese.
