It is ok to crave foods. And it is ok to allow yourself to have what you are craving. But if that craving is controlling you then there must be something emotional going on. Get really quiet within yourself. Do some deep breathing. Relax your mind. Get really still. And ask yourself, what is going on? What are you feeling? Try to pinpoint exactly what is going on within you to cause these uncontrollable cravings. Sit with the feelings for a bit. Don't be afraid of the uncomfortableness of being still, quiet and with your feelings. Just be. Then see if after you do this if you feel differently. Do you still want what you were craving? If so, have some of it. But be totally mindful while you having that food. Be aware of what your mind and your body feel like and say to you. And remember, be patient with yourself. It has taken years to set our habits around food. And sometimes it takes years to undo the habits. It isn't going to happen over night. Be kind and and loving to yourself. Pay attention to what your are telling yourself. Are you beating yourself up for having these cravings? You aren't bad for having the cravings. And,sometimes it helps to work with a professional coach or therapist to get to the bottom of what is " eating " you.Hope this helps.Alana>> > > > But > f you instead, tell yourself you can a piece of candy when you feel hungry, > hen you stop the deprivation/eat/guilt cycle.> > ~~~~~~~~~> I am haivng huge problems with eating only when I am hungry. When the huge cravings come on it's rarely ever due to hunger. Telling myself I can have it when I'm hungry does nothing to stop the total singelminded craving as much as I wish it would. I'm hoping I can someday accomplish eating only when I'm hungry instead of designated times, then I can work on telling the candy it can wait until I'm hungry...when I can do it with regular food.> > > Sunny> > > > > >
Guest guest
Ditto for me on not weighing, and mj. Being down in weight freaks me out just as much, if not more, than having gained weight. Basically, dieting screwed me up so badly that I can make any weight something to freak out about, LOL. Love your description, mj, of how weighing less first made you cocky and then made you depressed. What a world! Been there myself! Laurie Re: Sugar/Flour Addict and IE Hi , I'm with you on the not weighing. I have a 2 year physical coming up in April, the last time my doc weighed me I was the heaviest I've ever been. Guest guest
Hi Sunny, Yes, Geneen does say that she does not believe everyone that is overweight is an emotional eater and I do believe that's true, as well. I would say though, from personal experience, that it might be worthwhile to read some of her stuff to be sure it doesn't apply to you. I first heard of Geneen ages ago and also dismissed her because I didn't think that I was an emotional eater. Just thought I *really* liked food. It wasn't until she was everywhere earlier this year and I saw her on Oprah that I actually started reading some of her stuff. WFG was a revelation to me. Now I realize that emotional eating is probably what I do most of the time! Don't know if I was just more open to the message now than I had been in the past or if WFG was written in a way that finally sunk in. But it's been really helpful to me to finally understand what's behind my actions, even if I'm not completely successful in controlling it just yet. Just my $0.02. Guest guest
josie, I agree with you. My experience was that I loved the ideas in Geneen's earlier books but couldn't figure out how to apply them for myself. So I guess I needed a few more diets (or a dozen LOL). After seeing her on Oprah I knew I HAD to rush out & buy the book. By that time I had been involved with this IE_support board & had taken a couple of one evening workshops with an IE coach. So, I was READY to hear Geneen's message & TAKE IT IN. Of course I'm an over the top kind of gal so I not only have WFG but about 7 or 8 other IE books now & I read & practice from them all. For me, I can't imagine ever actually going back to dieting. My mind still sometimes likes to think about dieting when the " voice " (I call her Mildread) is telling me that I am getting fat again (which isn't true). I'm really learning to challenge those darn lies that " Mildread " wants to trick me into believing. I like to win so watch out " Millie " because you will be getting a swift kick in the butt next time. Isn't it fun to finally get a handle on the " voice " ? mj > > >> > > > > > >> So Now my question is, what's the best book anyone recommends for learning > > >> and getting into IE.
