Guest guest
Hi, Thea, I know at least the authors of the IE book say that if you don't strongly prefer the higher calorie/higher fat versions of a food, it's fine to eat the "diet" versions. I for one find most full-fat dairy products cloying (except for brie cheese, that is!), and actually prefer the lower fat versions. I use stevia when I can instead of sugar because stevia doesn't give me that crazy sugar high and then plunge down afterwards, not because I'm avoiding calories, and I think the taste is different but about as good as sugar, which is not one of my favorite tastes anyway. I know what you mean about the "thrill" being gone with food. Odd how that little edge of the illicit gave some foods such a zing! In some ways, I kind of miss that, and have to keep not trying to find that in something else (like spending too much money on stuff I don't need). Laurie Diet foods I was just wondering what everyone's attitude was towards foods that are intended as diet food, even if you're doing IE and not dieting. For instance, i drink diet soda and for the most part eat light ice cream and 2% milk cheese. Partly this is just a reflex for me having grown up dieting, but also I like these foods and don't get all that excited by the full fat or full sugar version. At least, I think that's what I think But I am well and truly through the legalization phase and in fact pretty much no food is all that thrilling for me anymore. This has not been the huge benefit I thought it would be, in that I have done a lot of eating to try to achieve that former "high". Only just now am I coming to see that it isn't going to be like that anymore. Thea

Guest guest
Thea,I really appreciate your post.I too drink diet soda--maybe one/day at the most. But I really like diet Pepsi. It started out as a sugar-free thing years ago, but I grew to really like it. I don't drink it now for dieting purposes--I am positive of that--I just don't like any real soda in general. In the warm weather, diet Pepsi that actually gets crunchy after almost freezing in the freezer is THE BEST! It's got to be in a bottle, not a can, or I won't drink it---just not the same, frozen or just cold. That is the only thing I ingest that has artificial sweetening. Usually I can't stand the taste of aspartame. As for ice cream--at least for me--it' s all or nothing. The "light" stuff doesn't taste that great for me.And I know what you mean about the "legalization" phase and food no longer producing the "high." This is so simple--yet so darn hard. What I am starting to internalize is that this IE needs to be priority #1 for me. It is very easy for me to forget that. The truth is that my happiness and well-being really hinges a lot on this. For example, I sometimes tend to get extremely busy at work and then-- suddenly -- realize that I am over-hungry (level 1-2 per IE)--it usually happens around 3pm. (I can set my own lunch schedule at work, fortunately.) This is not good, and sets me up to eat too fast and too much, and on an erratic schedule. My husband then wants to sit down with me to eat dinner around 6:30pm--he's a very regular (and thin) guy, a totally intuitive and normal eater, but I can't look at the food at that time. So this sets up tension between us.It's a challenge, but I'm gonna get there!!! This board is a major help!!!!>> I was just wondering what everyone's attitude was towards foods that are intended as diet food, even if you're doing IE and not dieting.
