Guest guest
Hi Jon!Thanks so much for your feedback. Yes, I am going to spend time pondering that...it's not about food but about recovery. In the long run I would like to be lighter, but I cannot be focused on that because it starts the neurosis up again.I'm realizing that my food habits are very similar to the habits of the alcoholics in my family...it all interrelates. Realizing that put me in touch with the fact that the 12 steps will help me here, and I can easily "translate" the language of abstinence to IE, knowing that I can have an attitude of "take what you like and leave the rest." Very important!!!Food is food...can be pleasurable, but if it's used to push down emotions etc it stops being soothing...so I'm hoping for recovery indeed. Happy to have this group plus local OA.Cheers, Hi ! I started OA and IE simultaneously about 6 months ago. You’re right that your definition of abstinence will be difference than some of the others in the room. You might also find some very substantial differences in different groups. There are what they call “HOW” (Honey Openness Willingness) groups which will not accept a personal definition of abstinence – they rely on a version of abstinence that is based entirely on a meal plan that consists of 3 meals a day, no flour, no sugar and a bunch of other rules. But these groups are very few. The point of OA on the whole though is that it’s not about food – it’s about recovery. Everyone there will support you no matter how different your food plan is than theirs. Intuitive Eating can be your food plan. It is mine and it is for other people. Wishing you the best in recovery,Jon
