Guest guest
Ohyes. My nada was an attractive woman, but had a horrible sense of fashion and decorating. My sister and I say she could make anything tacky. She wore polyester pantsuits from the mid 70s well into the 80's. When I said anything about it, as a young teenager, she seemed to take joy in digging in her heels and embarassing me. For me, there's a lot of shame related to nada that is a big part of my baggage. Why I had to move away, etc. Besides her mode of dress, there are the vehicles she would either paint or embellish with bumper stickers, the ridiculous letters the editor, etc. Lots of embarassment/shame. Guest guest
I can't say mine had a weird way of dressing but she was inappropriate at times. She liked to dress in real short dresses and high heels when she was in her 40's. That seemed a bit off to me since she was dressing like a sexy teeny bopper. Maybe I'm just too conservative. I've seen the occasional show on TV where a young woman is complaining about her older Mom dressing too sexy. I'm not sure where to draw the line. But I didn't even dress like that when I was a teenager. Plus she would flirt with men all the time even if she was married at the time. > > Did anyone's nada have a real strange way of dressing? Guest guest
Hi Jackie, My nada has always dressed tastefully and conservatively but she tended to be domineering and controlling about how Sister and I dressed also. Nada often wanted Sister and/or me to dress like her and would buy us clothing in her taste and style instead of age-appropriate clothing in our individual tastes and styles. Nada even (still!) will from time to time push me to dress exactly the same as her as though we are twins, which I never could stand to do and which she will still push for (even though we are rarely in contact now and even though I've made it clear each time that I am not interested in doing that. I think nada chooses not to " hear " things she doesn't want to hear, as though she is a spoiled 2-year-old who repeatedly demands ice cream before dinner even though she's been told " no " over and over: a behavior that I find only mildly annoying coming from a real 2-year-old but incredibly irritating when coming from an adult. -Annie > > my nada always wears extremely bright, loud clothing, with loud > prints...almost to the point of being tasteless, and of course tries to push > this off on her daughters ! > > Jackie

Guest guest
Hi Annie, yes, nada has gotten me and my sisters clothing that SHE would like, not something any of us would ever wear !! and usually I get " old lady " stuff even when I was still in my 20's and 30's...she once got me an old lady sweater and had someone paint it ( with fabric paints) a bright purple and pink and had sequins and glitter all over it !!! NOT me !! when I showed it to my sister in law, she said it looked just like something nada would love..and asked how did I ever find it, then I told her nada sent it to me for my birthday !! it was a button up sweater with a pocket on each side and ribbed collar ,cuffs and hem... From the " Christian Pot Luck " outfits to the " hippie wear " to the " overtly sexified mini's " to the " pre-school teacher " sweatshirts with matching pants and matching Keds " to the " yoga pants/workout era " to the " overalls and demin' phase... Guest guest
Mine always looks like a cross between a bag lady and a 2-year old who dressed herself. She often forgets/doesn't bother to comb her hair and walks around like that all day. Dare I mention her glasses that are falling down her nose and completely covered in crap? Once, when a woman flirted with my father, she decided to have " stunningly glamorous " picture (add a sigh of amazement for effect) taken of herself looking really gorgeous. She had it all worked out--if someone flirted with my father, he would show the hussy this gorgeous photo of his movie-star wife, and the hussy would run away scared. To get this glamourous shot taken, she dressed up like normal, didn't put on any makeup, and went to Walmart's photo department. Later, when I asked about the photo, she slumped in disappointment. " It didn't come out glamorous, like I wanted it to. " Kind of a disconnect there, no? > > Did anyone's nada have a real strange way of dressing? That would vary from > year to year. Guest guest
Mine decided to become a " fashion designer " (read: spend hundreds/thousands of dollars on expensive fabric for garish/outlandish designs, get fed up with actually having to sew them, and send them away to be sewn up and returned then claim them as her own handiwork). I didn't mind so much as long as I didn't have to wear them, but she ALWAYS tried to get me to be her " model " so she could sell them then be upset if they didn't fit right, or if I really didn't want to wear them in public. > > Did anyone's nada have a real strange way of dressing?
