Guest guest
Diabetics have been advised to get a flu vaccination for years. I've gone a couple of years without them, but for the most part, I've been getting one for the last 20 years or so. Seven days ago, my uncle, who was diagnosed 5 years ago with Type 2 diabetes was hospitalized with the flu. We found out that 4 years ago he got a flu vaccination , which made him mildly sick (a cold). He refused to get another one since. Well, the flu has developed into pnemonia, and the doctors have stated that they have done all they can do for him. He now has a breathing tube and a feeding tube installed/implanted. His family is gathering to say goodbye. Please, every year, get a flu vaccination if you can, and make sure your pnemonia vaccs are updated. 2 cents

Guest guest
Hi, Sorry to hear about your uncle. There are a lot of bad bugs going around this year. I was similarily hospitalized with a breathing tube this winter. Flu shots and pneumonia shots are good and I get them every year, but there are strains they miss in these shots so we still get flus and pneumonias. All we can do is to wash the hands and stay away from those who are sick and do the best we can. Sorry again about your uncle. As for the diabetes management and trains of thought, they all boil down to the same thing no matter how you do it. You have to be your own best friend and advocate and look after yourself and work with your diabetes team to achieve maximum results, but you must be willing to do it. Sometimes different trains of thought give you ideas on how to handle problems you have but can't solve on your own. Just because they are different doesn't mean they are bad, but we also have the free choice to do with it as we want.
