I must admit, I have no idea if a local pharmacy could print my log. I suppose I

could convince them to download the software, and they would probably be able

to. Can we even get the software, never mind an accessible version?

Printing a log from the Prodigy Voice

Advanced Diabetic Supplies is requesting a log for their records since my

daily strip need is above the guidelines for insulin dependent diabetics

(3

per day!).

So, how can I do this, assuming I can, with my sighted wife's assistance

of

course?

Thanks.

That's the issue we've had discussions about for months. The software is

inaccessible, so unless you have a sighted person to help, apparently we are

unable to print the log.

I'm skeptical that a local pharmacy could print a log from the Prodigy Voice

meter since I don't believe the software to do this has ever been released.

I don't think the software would be released to just pharmacists or other

commercial interests such as doctors, etc. without also being made available

to the consumer user group. And with no software to generate the log

programmatically, the only way to do so would be to manually go through the

meter one reading at a time which I don't think any pharmacist or doctor

would do since it is so labor intensive.

I still maintain that the inability of the Prodigy Voice to provide software

to users to download its logs to a computer is inexcusable.

As usual, Alan, well said. I've been a loyal Prodigy user and promoter for

years, but this seemingly small thing with the log software and DDI's lack of

response will see me deserting ship when my present batch of supplies is used

up.

Hi Dave,

All I can say is that it is in for FDA approval since it is software for a

medical device. When the approval will be done is unknown. I have seen the

software and it looks promising but again when approval will be is unknown.

I too am hoping it is soon.

Ruth, perhaps you can explain this FDA approval issue further since I

thought that sounded like a lame excuse when the Prodigy representative told

it to me. I would have thought getting FDA approval for the device itself

would have been the difficult issue and that the FDA wouldn't care much

about software that worked with an approved device. Didn't the device have

to be originally designed so that it would work with a computer? I would

have thought that any software to transfer its logs to a computer would have

been in the original design and already covered by FDA approval. This just

sounds like someone's making an excuse to hide a serious shortcoming.

Hi Allan,

All I know is what I was told which is that the FDA requires the software

needs to be approved by the FDA. My guess is that FDA rules have changed

and it is now required for software. Remember, the software was changed for

the Voice since it was first developed because it was not working well. In

the meantime, rules may have changed so D.D.I. must conform to rules. I am

from Canada and I know that Canada Health changes rules from time to time

and you can get caught in the middle of these changes and then have to

conform. That’s all that I can figureout has happened.

Yeah, well, I keep thinking we'll hear from Ruth or someone who has some new

information about this. The silence is deafening.

Printing a log from the Prodigy Voice

Advanced Diabetic Supplies is requesting a log for their records since my

daily strip need is above the guidelines for insulin dependent diabetics

(3

per day!).

So, how can I do this, assuming I can, with my sighted wife's assistance

of

course?

Thanks.

Ruth, thanks for the update. I can certainly appreciate that rules change.

Hopefully the software will be out and available sooner rather than later. I

must admit that waiting on FDA approval is one of those things that sounds

awfully indefinite.
