Exciting updates to your action network

Welcome from Your Online Initiatives Coordinator

Sept. 2, 2008

Dear LORI,

Welcome to YOUR Action Network!

As Public Citizen's new online communications coordinator, I'd like to introduce myself and tell you about some exciting plans in the pipeline for Public Citizen's online activism efforts.

I came to Public Citizen in March 2008, helping get our message out to the media, and I am thrilled to continue serving you in a new capactiy. Public Citizen has been representing you successfully in the halls of power since 1971, and citizen activists like you have been an integral part of our many accomplishments.

The face of activism is quite different than in 1971. The Internet has changed how non-profits engage and communicate with activists. Public Citizen recognizes this change, and because activists like you are crucial to our work, we have many exciting venutres planned to enhance our presence online and build our Action Network.

I invite you to visit a new Web page we have created for the Public Citizen Action Network. Here, you will find links to all the features and benefits of your membership with the network, including past editions of our e-newsletter, Citizen Direct, and a list of "hot issues" Public Citizen is working on. Please take a moment to browse our updated action items page, which includes an archive of actions dating back to 2005.

In addition to providing you with information, we want to develop a dialogue with you. We have created pages on popular social networking sites to give you another way to talk to us and each other, including Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Flickr and Twitter. I encourage you to take a moment to browse and join these networks and tell your friends about them. I also encourage you to visit our "What Inspires YOU" feature, in which you have an opportunity to tell us what inspires you as an activist.

As the November elections draw nearer, Public Citizen, and the country, is calling for a fresh start - for a move toward energy independence, strong drug safety rules, fair trade policies and much more. As your online communications coordinator, I share this goal of making a fresh start. Thank you for being a part of a crucial network of engaged citizens. I look forward to working with you in our fight to ensure that all our voices are heard in the halls of power. Stay tuned!

Thank you for all you do,Maureen Backmanfeedback@...
