The purpose of IE isn't supposed to be about weight loss, but about developing a healthy, normal relationship with food. However there is a majority percentage of people here that are here because of the desire to lose weight, but are tired of the diet/regain cycle and have realized that diets don't work, at least in the long term. I am here to say that IE does work for weight loss. I have been doing IE for 3 1/2 almost 4 years. I came across IE when I did a tele conference called " Women don't get fat eating chocolate " . Thru that tele-conference I then signed up for another tele-class called " Am I Hungry? " which followed the IE book by the same title by Dr. May. I then worked for a period of time with our dear moderator and IE coach Gillian. Let me say... It isn't just about the food. I had to learn to re-incorporate all the foods that were forbidden to me in the diet world. I learned I can eat those foods in moderation. I had to give up the Diet Mentality - and it is hard - it still creeps in and I have to fight it ALL the time. I had to learn to start loving my body just they way it was. It didn't mean I didn't have desire to lose weight, because I did. But I loved and accepted my body the way it was. I did that by buying clothes that fit me at that time and that I felt good and beautiful in. I had to learn that food doesn't make my feelings go away. I had to learn to sit with my feelings. And sometimes those feelings are uncomfortable. But I've learned I'm not going to die because of my feelings. I've had to change some of my habits like eating in front of the TV. It is the best place to stuff my face and zone out. And sometimes I allow myself to do just that. But I now sit at the kitchen table and eat - still have the TV on, but it's across the room and I have to turn my body to see it. And I've had to learn to be mindful while eating - or doing anything for that matter. To be present in the moment. God Bless Eckart Tolle and all that he has to teach. Today I had a visit to my GP, the first since March. I don't own a scale and only get weighed at the Dr's office. I have learned that no matter what that number says, it is not my worth. But today I discovered I am down 16 lbs. This is without even trying. This is because of incorporating IE into my life and it being a part of me. I am very excited because my Dr. is taking me off of one of my high blood pressure medications. Sooooo, IE does work at weight loss, but it takes a long time and it's about way more than food, but about rediscovering our minds, bodies and spirits!
