my son is 13 yrs old now...orig dx pddnos....also apraxia. He appears now to be

an aspergers kid. He attends reg classroom, gets honor roll, is sorta a genius

in math/algebra, scores advanced...but his big problem that sets him apart from

his peers is his funny sounding voice!

he has a high pitch tone and tends to kinda yell his words alittle.

He can appear totally normal but the minute he talks, everyone turns around and

looks. When he was younger he could get away with it, but I notice now it is

having a huge impact on his self esteem. He used to play sports on our towns

reg leagues but now will not join. He also used to go outside and play and now

has become a hermit...he even asked me if he could be homeschooled for high

school, which is next year.

He asks me from time to time if hes going thru puberty and will his voice

change, lol anyone else have a kid with this problem and what have you tried?

thanks!

Has he hit puberty yet? My son’s voice has lowered significantly after puberty. You could have him work with a speech therapist or a voice coach on voice modulation. That could help as well. Make sure that the therapist is experienced in working with voice disorders. There are some computer programs designed to help with issues such as volume and pitch, that speech pathologists can use. I know nothing about this other than what I learned in a special education technology class but you can check out the site listed in my textbook www. videovoice.com. --------------- Ezorsezor@...
