Everything will be ok at the Drs. just make sure you ask everything you possibly can and write it down and always get copies of blood work ect.then you have something to go back and look at because all of this is so ovewhelming that you think you will remember but you don't! Hey you can get help through Shering. They will give you the meds if you qualify! Here is there site not sure if this one is where you can get the help but you cna write them! Good luck!

Thanks Teri, will get into those when I can- glory, there's still

not time enough in a day.... :),

Hope I'm not opening a can of worms here, but I'd just gotten the

book Triumph over Hepatitis C- an alternative medicine solution by

Lloyd . To say I was surprised when I first began to read it

is an understatement, but I kept on...I do see that the milk thistle

he talks about is considered safe, but wow there's alot of different

things he reccomends...Has anyone else tried any of his ideas???

Hope I'm not creating a problem here.

As I shopped for groceries yesterday I was amazed at how much added

iron there is in cereal. He doesn't eat that much, but imagine every

little bit adds up. I also am starting to look at labels for

additives (food colorings and etc) for my son to see if some of his

attention problems may be due to an allergy to something like that.

Maybe I'm just grasping at straws.. Thanks and take care all-Rose

My guess is that they do not plan to spend much money on services for your ds. So changing his classification makes it look good on paper for them. If they have a child with autism on paper, they have to show that the services are being provided that match that dx. How could they get funding for someone with autism but provide no services to that child? Or provide only speech? It might be causing them problems.

Otherwise, I don't know what the problem could be aside from money. It's usually always money.

Sometimes a person will screw around with you just for her/his own amusement. But in the end, it's money.

I would ask them directly - if we all agree he has a medical dx of autism, then why change his classification? Shouldn't it be the most accurate classification? Autism matches autism. If they say he is not classically autistic, then I would ask to see the exact paperwork detailing what the autism classification requirements are exactly. If he has AS, then he will meet the classification definition. The only "problem" will be in severity of those problems. And that is open to interpretation, IMO, and could be argued.

RoxannaYou're UniqueJust like everyone else...

RE: ( ) Aspergers versus HFA

Aspergers, HFA, Classic autism, PDD-NOS are all under the autism spectrum. I can see if the child is DXed with autism and the school wants to say aspergers and he/she is still getting the right services " fine ". but my school wants to take my son off the autism spectrum DX and give him " OHI " which would be a Hugh disadvantage to him because the staff won't have a clear understanding of my son's autism with a classification of OHI. They still want to change him from an autism classification to OHI but added a medical DX of autism. What sense does that make and why ? how does that benefit the school by changing my son's classification from autism to now OHI ?

Jan,

good for you! I hope you have a stress free year this coming September. I think the school will try - and for those parents who don't know - they get away with it. but like you mentioned, you know they can't do that or they would have to provide you with a tutor. another option is: when they said they need his bus to leave eariler - they can also let that bus leave later/last and let your son complete his math lesson.

When you mentioned the school saying he can take the worksheets home. It sounds like they don't want to deal with him at all. That is what they did to us when I said my son can't read, write or spell. They were sending me papers with spelling words for me to work with my son at home. then some reading stuff, they even sent me a math work sheet with examples for me to explain the work to him. not to mention a ton of homework because he didn't finish his work in class so they sent that home too. So, what did he do in school all day if his class work was coming home and so was his homework. then they would say - he's doing so well in school, we don't see it. (any time I mentioned a concern I had with my son) we don't see it....

So, lets hope this next school year is much better and we see lots of progress. I'm so happy for you and your son that he doesn't have any more homework!... yeah!!!Rose

From: rushen janice <jrushen@...> Sent: Monday, June 8, 2009 5:24:30 PMSubject: Re: ( ) Rose

We would have been finished with school by now but we had about 8 or 9 snow days...one day because of ice....ugh! At least my son won't have any more homework this week..... He doesn't get a lot of homework...but he fights me tooth and nail about it. It takes 5 min. but the fighting takes 2 hours. You would think he would have learned.

That is why I laughed at them in the transition meeting when they said could do some worksheets at home...who are they kidding. I will take the wait and see attitude.... if he is having trouble next year...I will tell them he needs to be on a bus that leaves only about 5 min. early or I want a tutor.

Thanks for the support.

Jan,

I did have an advocate and a very good one with me at all times. they still did what they wanted to at the CSE meetings. They even challenged my sons doctor that specializes in autism, and the psychologist, therapist, neurologist, everyone. they said - we're not seeing this in school. No one could believe what they were putting my son and myself through. but you know, just like Ruth wrote - those bad eggs now have to vent somewhere else. and they know who they are!.
