Guest guest
Mark, we had success with L-tyrosine dosed at the same time with P5P on an empty stomach in the morning. That was followed after breakfast by pycnogenol. That combination gave him some help with attention and impulsivity. ~GayleTo: mb12 valtrex Sent: Sun, January 9, 2011 8:15:05 PMSubject: attention issues We have a little high functioning guy with attention issues (among other things) Ultimately medication may be on the table but we wanted to see what else we could try. We were thinking of trying Klaire's/Prothera's Acetyl-L-carnitine 1 capsule 500 mg and Klaire/Prothera's Phosphtidyl Serine which contains 100 mg phophatidlyserine 100mg phosphatidylcholine 100mg phosphatidylethanolamine 2.5 mg phosphatidylinositol 1.5 mg We were thinking the combination would help boost acetylcholine Pure makes a phosphatidylecholine with 420 mg-is 100 mg enough to see a difference? Does anyone have any other ideas? I was also thinking of trying some amino acids such as l-tyrosine, l-theanine Thankyou in advance! Guest guest
Mark, We do 'Feingold' and this helped tremendously. Feingold allowed our son (4 yrs now, 3.5 at the time we started Feingold) to sit at the dinner table for 10 minutes. (He would run and eat!) and his thoughts (and sometimes speech is disconnected) because his mind is like a whirlwind. (He's got a lot to say, and a lot going on upstairs!) It is the difference of night and day. WAYYYY Less crying, less frustration, less weepy, less fidgeting, no more leg shaking, or looking like he's going come out of his seams if he is sitting. (For a long time I chalked it up to him being a 'boy.' I had to have serious conversation with myself.. ) We still have some other things to iron out, but we also try to get about 2 hours of running/playing hard a day -- and this helps a lot too. One of the listers here suggested LDN (or Enhansa) to help with the calmness/connection of thoughts. It's (back) on the table at this point as our son struggles a bit with it. (We tried Enhansa, at the very beginning, but I didn't see any real gains with it, it might be time now to try it again.) Someone had suggested " Attend " and " Calm " - and I have gotten good reviews from these products. http://www.attentiondeficit-add-adhd.com/attention_deficit_disorder_attend_add_a\ dhd_Vaxa.htm http://www.calmnatural.com/kids-calm-multi/ Some suggestions! laura > > Mark, we had success with L-tyrosine dosed at the same time with P5P on an empty > stomach in the morning. Guest guest
Please note, acetyl-l-carnitine is an energy vitamin so you may not experience less activity! My son is doing Feingold, GF, Low oxalate diet, very limited casein, very limited soy (soy lecithin only)We have had success with: GABA, L-theanine, taurine, magnesiumHe is now on Respen-A. While on this, I took away GABA and L-theanine and he did great for abt 2 weeks and then not so much... I think it was an oxalate/calcium issue at the time. Not sure. But put him back on the GABA and L-theanine. I may try to remove them again, when he's not dumping oxalates. As we have now added LDN. ('s my buddy off-list, so we discussed this already, as per her previous message)I don't know that it would help all ADHD issues, but I think my kid is a viral one, (haha hence me being on this list?!!) so I think it is helping some way.We have the whole family on LDN now. The differences have been amazingly good, in tiny ways. I really can't explain it well.Everyone here is doing what they are supposed to be, and being happy abt it. It's helped me focus. And both my kids. (Last night I forgot it for my son and he was a mess as usual LOL and my daughter (Aspie) very pleasant today)Oh, I was going to try the serines, but they are made from soy. The DAN says most people are not as sensitive to the oils as the proteins, and that I should still keep the option open. Just wanted to pass on to you the soy thing, in case your child is extra-sensitive. Â We have a little high functioning guy with attention issues (among other things) Ultimately medication may be on the table but we wanted to see what else we could try. Guest guest
My 2 kids are up to 300 mg pycnogenol and 200 mg l-theanine in the a.m. and 100 mg l-theanine right before homework in the afternoon. These are big for attention. They take a lot of other supportive supplements such as l-carnitine tartrate 500 mg 2 x per day EPA xtra fish oil (4 per day) and 1 takes Blue Ice CLO, they also take a custom amino blend high in Tuarine. Guest guest
I wanted to chime in with the Enhansa suggestion. Enhansa is extremely high in phenols. So if phenol sensitivity is an issue (which FG diet addresses by removing phenols) then I would not recommend doing Enhansa as its a very high concentration of phenols. We are thinking of going the Feingold diet route here, but unfortunately I don't see how we could continue SCD since lots of the staple foods on SCD are not allowed on Feingold. So its good to read about Feingold success stories. This is inspiring us to start experimenting with other routes besides SCD to help alleviate autism symptoms that have not been addressed through SCD. Thank you!
