Glad to know you're on the mend, Sugar!

As far as going off the oral medication and taking insulin, I'd suggest a second

opinion. My instinct is that your doctor makes good sense, concerning the

negative affects on your kidney. It seems to me that in your case, with a

transplanted kidney, you need to do as much as possible to prolong its life.

But, do some more research, and hopefully, you'll hear from others on the list.

Hi everyone

First, I hope all of you had a happy Thanksgiving, and as Christmas is

comeing, I have had alot happen.

I've been hospitalized twice in a month, due to low blood pressure, and

weakness, fatigue, and just " not myself "

After several ultra sounds, tests on both my kidney and pancreas, all is well.

My kidney is very good, at a Kreatnum of 1.2, and my pancreas is at a Chronic

failure, rejecting slowly, but doing well.

I don't qualify for another one, yet, because A1C is at a 5.5, yet it is

rejecting, then I have had it for about 7 years now, and my kidney just turned

9, and that is very well, out of danger.

so, I've been on Metformin for about 3 years now, but I noticed that when I

was in the hospital they took me off it, and put me on a sliding scale of

insulin(which I never had to have some), and my Dr. said that because I have a

kidney transplant, metformin can actually harm it, so I should stop taking it.

now, here is my thing, it has helped me lower my a1c, and it has helped me

loos alot of weight, along with a helathy diet and excerise.

so he said as long as your kreatnum stays under 1.4, then it's ok, but as soon

as it goes up, you are off, and just wing it.

now for the past two weeks, I've been off it, and my sugars have never gone

over 130 the entire day, so I guess that's pretty good, with fasings of 100 and,

like I said nothing over 130 through out the day.

sorry this to long, but I did have alot to catch up on.

yep, well, as far as I know, usually hospitals don't give oral meds for

" diabetes " even thogh I am on border line as type II, and I do consider myself a

diabetic, because some people tend to believe that a pancreas transplant is a

" cure " it isn't, it is a form of treatment, and nobody knows how long it will

last.

hospitals just use a scaling system, but I am not on insulin at home.

maybe they only do that for transplant patients, who knows.
